I must have been lucky I'd already had a couple of LImelight basses when I saw this on Marks website , was a special build he'd done , I had spoken to him before about a sunburst relic but he had always said it was very difficult to do.

Probably a bit too heavily relic' d for some people but I like it and it plays beautifully

@peety I was wondering who got that one... I still have the pics on my phone from when I went and played it, and then deliberated too long! Awesome bass!

Mark had made me a Dakota red 58P and I was struggling with the size of the neck ,when I saw this on the website,   This is the 3rd LImelight I've hadn't they've all been great basses but this is the best , the Jazz neck makes it extremely playable.

This really does feel so played in and strung with flats has that proper old school P bass vibe , Marks pickups are up there with the best I've ever played

Also had a lot of comments from band mates and people at gigs , as I said lots of people don't like the whole relic thing but I guess that's a personal thing

Got this from Mark after seeing the picture on his web site , now I'm aware such a heavy relic is not to a lot of people's taste however I really like the look and it plays sublimely

It's meant to be a 68/69 precision with a Jazz width neck and the addition of the J pup which apparently was a popular mod around then also has a genuine Fender nitro cellulose pickguard and a side mounted jack socket.

Only downside it is slightly heavy for long sets but it's worth the trade off

To me another example of a quality bass from Mark

I'm in Chorley and have a number of P basses (only 2 of which are Fenders).  You would be most welcome to come and try my basses and A/B to yours if you wish.

Thanks for the kind offer ead I may well take you up on that in the future

I had a Euro 4 LX for a few years and currently play a 50's Lacquer Precision and also a Sandberg PM4 (which is may be fairly similar to your Maruszczyk??). I had always wanted one, loved the looks and the sound that i had heard on records and it was a 50th birthday indulgent gift from the missus so i really tried to love it but ultimately it wasn't for me.

The Spector could be from a different planet compared with the 2 P bass styles. I couldn't get a Precision tone from it - the Tonepump preamp and EMG pickups sound much more modern and it doesn't have the warm low mid punch that works so well in a band that the Fender P bass has. The Spector has oodles of big clean low end and sparkle but is much more hifi sounding. It didn't have the fatness of a Precision and i found it a bit sterile. It may not do the Motown thing too well in my opinion.

I didn't find it as comfortable as a P bass to play either when stood up - it wasn't particularly heavy but it feels like the 1st fret is a few inches further out to your left due to the bridge being mounted inboard to the body. Everything feels a bit closer in on the P bass. And i think i prefer slightly bigger bodies too in general. Lovely quality though.

I think you would be better off grabbing a used one off here - if you don't gel with it when you've gigged it a bit you can flip it back with minimal loss. At £1700 you're taking a risk.

Thanks for that , I'm really torn at the moment however I think I need to at least try one , I've never been one for fiddling around with things I like the simplicity of the Precision although both my P basses have a jazz pick up which gives me a nice amount of flexibility

Ultimately I need to have something I'm going to use regularly so I'm sort of leaning towards another Maruzsczyk as I know the weight will be light and to be honest exactly what I'll get for the money

    decisions decisions 😂😂

  6. Thanks for that I guess I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance everything I have read about them has been positive

While 9LBS is a bit heavier than my Maruszczyk its not an issue and by the sound of things the versatility of the bass would have all bases covered

  7. Very interested in this thread , I'm pretty much a died in the wool  precision man to the point I come out in a rash if I go near a jazz bass.

However Spectors are looking very appealing to me especially the Euro LX with the PJ configuration ,

So a couple of questions to you experts how do they compare to a precision in term of tones etc , what are they generally like for weight , I have a great Limelight but I'm struggling with playing long sets with it due to weight  as opposed to my Maruszczyk which is really light.

I'm in Wigan and looking around there don't seem to be any local stockists and at around £1700 they're no cheap to take a punt on

Other option is a used one which is what I'm thinking about just interested in peoples thoughts

I play in a covers band which covering everything from Indie to motown  depending on gig

    Cheers steve

There was one like that on Facebook before Xmas for £675 from someone not too far from me in Wigan. Doesn't appear to have been sold and he posted a new profile pic a few weeks ago of him playing the bass so maybe he thought better of it!

Yes that is mine I did think better of it even though I have a white one as well seriously good value for the money and the spec available

  10. My Maruszczyk Jake was based on the specs of a Duck Dunn I had blocked and bound neck matching headstock I decided against a jazz pickup at the bass , this comes in at around 7.5 lbs , I've had several laklands Dj , Bob Glaub , and loved them however I now have 2 Jakes and they are at least the equal if not better than the laklands ,

i had the bass pictured below up for sale I have since come to my senses and removed it

  11. Last of a run of 4 gigs in 8 days for us last night ,circus  carnival ball complete with large model animals amongst other things.

Contracted for 2 x 45 minutes sets to be finished by 11.30 as they also had a DJ entertainer complete with dancers who would take the night through till 1.30pm. Arrived as agreed at 4pm to be told they had messed up the timings to be told they had issues with another room in the hotel and had moved those guests who had booked for a quiet singer only meal/ evening into the party.

This would result in everything would overrun and we would only be going on at 1045 and would still finish at 1145 so only required to do 1 hour , not an issue but meant a bit of set rearrangement , About an hour before going on Manager came to us and said some people were complaining about background music being too loud and could we try and tone it down,

Evening was beginning to have all the makings of a night mare at 10.20 the DJ went and did a 15 minute 70s spot complete with dancers at which point they were still serving food fair play to him he got crowd going for us straight on and did 80 minutes virtually without taking a breath to cram as much as possible in, turned out to be a blast our singer is a proper extrovert which helped and had dance floor full and bouncing all night so what looked like being hard work turned out to be a good night.

had to wait till everything finished to pack down plus with an hour drive home didn't get in till 3.30 but all in all good night and extremely well paid so can't complain.

month off now after a really busy 2017 40'gigs in already for next year so going to be another busy one
