  1. Blimey 😪 R.I.P. Alasdair "Algy" Ward. Bass player with the The Saints, The Damned and Tank.

The sound of that P bass being hammered for the intro to Love Song by The Damned fuelled the fires of tone for me.

It is quite simple, just not a one click process.

    Select model channel.

Adjust all the knobs so nothing is flashing. That shows the knobs are in their preset stored positions.

    Select destination channel.

Twiddle each knob up and back to where it was.

Save. Now you should have a solid light and saved same as the model channel.

Click over to the model channel. It should be the identical and twiddles up and back should go back to solid red also.

    I think that's it.

That's exactly how I've done it. This was for a boost channel and all I wanted was to lift the output level a touch. Worked perfectly.

Alright then — https://reverb.com/uk/item/63044138-fender-mustang-bass-1971 (the price was lower in the shop)

When I was there yesterday a couple of chaps came in, one looking very much like Matt Berry. He saw the mustang sitting in its open case and said "That is a thing of beauty" In a perfectly modulated rich baritone voice. I told him about the bass and he expressed that he'd be more interested in a 1974 one so I showed him where they have a similar '74 mustang hanging on the wall. And that is how I met Matt Berry.

Yes, I can hear you Clem Fandango.

This is a good watch. Back when this was filmed/aired the chances of anything music-related being shown on prime-time telly were slim, but this popped up on the BBC as an early evening programme as part of a series of gigs at Sefton Park in Liverpool (Big Country were also on as a separate broadcast and cleverly changed the chorus to Angle Park to Sefton Park, the cheeky loveable scamps!). As I recall it was on a Tuesday/Wednesday evening at 7pm, or some such?

    Anyway…

Ah! Yes! This was the what I had on playing in the back ground.

Leigh Gorman was only in the Band for one month, after Dirk Wears White Sox and before Kings of the Wild Frontier and never recorded with them.

Dirk Wears White Sox is a superb album but the original bass player was Andy Warren. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Would-Be-Goods

Yes! Of course! Andy Warren laid down some great bass lines on DWWS. It's still an all time fav album for me.

Watching Leigh play live with BWW, he does throw in a bit of manic slap as well as pick playing.

  6. I accidentally listened to some Bow Wow Wow the other day, and was blown away by Leigh Gorman's bass playing. I had totally forgotten how good he is. I'm very aware of him from the original Adam And The Ants line up but, blimey!

Of course add in to this Dave Barbarossa's driving drums and Mathew Ashman's rockabilly sounding guitar and musically they had something going on. Sadly, for me, the songs are a bit meh and the vocals just don't help.

Was it a Wal he was playing then?

(I should add that it was live performance of the band that was running in the background from YTube.)

Here's my Ric story.  I'd never ever tried one but always fancied them.  The sound, more than the looks, but not the clank - that mellow hollow tone you get half way up the neck.  Machine Head.  My problem was they are too expensive to buy on whim and I'd been put off making that kind of financial committment by all the tales of 'you've got to try a hundred before you find the one that fits'.  Then a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to get a quality, early 70s MIJ Faker which was close enough to get a proper impression and I totally and utterly loved it.  I loved the look, complete;ly blown away by the tone.  It say comfortably in many genre, more versatile than I had been led to believe by the detractors.  But heavy.  Getting on for 11 lbs.  I wore it for a couple of hours one rehearsal and my back hurt for the next week.  Plus it has a bound slab body, something I struggle with, so I had to move it on, which was a desperate shame.

I've found out that some Rics are lighter, coming in at around 9lbs, some are unbound with a forearm shamfer, but that still isn't light enough so I resigned myself to never having one.  Then Davie @kodiakblair came to my rescue and  sold me a Retrovibe Renegade that needed a bit of conversion work, which got done.  So what I have now is a Retrovibe Renegade with generic Ric style pickups, unbound body, forearm shamfer, weighs under 8lbs.  Does it look like a Ric?  Kinda.  Enough, anyway.  Does it sound like a Ric?  Kinda.  Enough, anyway.  It is light enough for me to wear all night, cost around £350 all in and has scratched my Ric itch.

I wish I had pulled the trigger on one of the Retrovibe Renegades when they were available. I think Mr Hall got shirty about it though so they were limited production? Anyhoo, I did buy a Retrovibe Les Paul style short scale bass from them  and it was loaded with their Ric pick ups and it sounds great! With new strings you can certainly get a Ric tone from it.

I managed to knock it over yesterday, very obvious big dint on the front now :(

If I was a drummer she would of just made me quit.

Makes Keith Moon look like he was hitting his kit with feather dusters.

Love the moment at 4.06 when she hits the cymbal and a huge chunk of drumstick goes flying.

Never seen anyone destroy a drum kit quite like that.

Oh goodness me! Being shallower than a puddle on a summer's day, I have to admit that I find that watching a good female drummer to be one of the sexiest things out there.. I think I need a cold flannel!

Blimey! I'd missed that episode and song. I was 17 at the time and "seeing" a gorgeous Italian girl, a year older than me, who was on a long holiday in my town. She used to sing this :D Ahhh... memories.
