1.
Whilst it's by no means essential, when having Real Booked based jams, you just get the chords and the treble clef melody (unless it's got a specific bassline). Whilst you can happily play over the chords without reading the melody, I find knowing what I'm playing over better means I can contribute more solidly, although for me this is a case of looking at it at home as I can't sight read it. Should probably mention I'm not by any means pro
Cheers zmech, I've been practising with real books a lot recently too. I was looking more at the chords but maybe I'll start to take note of the melody also.
2.
It looks like you are putting in the time learning to sight read - always worth going the extra yard for the TC. Music is not just about Bass. Reading the TC opens access to various higher register instruments, seeing how they approach melody, Harmony and solos etc, which at the end of the day all helps to make you a more rounded Musician. Garry
Thanks Gary, sounds like good advice. I wanted to learn as much as possible but at the same time I didn't want to waste my precious practise time.
3. Thanks Doddy, thats the answer I was looking for.
4. Quick question to the professionals out there.... How often do you have to deal with a treble clef? Is it worth spending time learning it? So far I've seen ledger lines and 8va signs for the higher notes but I haven't seen a grand stave used. Cheers Dave
5. How about Don't stop beleiving? That has been made popular recently in that Glee show.
6.
Not a problem. As Soliloquy has said, it leads to other work. Thats pretty much why we're doing it, we'd rather play the hotels in China and such and it looks like we have some work over there to. They're better pay and you're better looked after from the sounds of things. ie Instead of 2 of you sharing a 2 birth cabin, its a 5* Room each. But you have to start somewhere. Which ferry are you going to be working? Dan
I'm not sure yet a friend of mine is waiting for some dates to come back. I'll keep you posted.
7.
Try the local library and look for the full 6 Bach Cello Suites - or you can buy them for around £14.
Thanks Bilbo.
8. Thanks for this. I'm learning to sight read at the moment and this has helped. I've never tried a classical piece before but I rather enjoyed it. Dave P.S. If anyone knows a good source for stuff like this that I can use then I would be most grateful.
9. Cheers for all the responses. I may have an opportunity in the summer holidays which I think I'll take. Pietruska I would like to hear about your experience as it sounds like I am doing something similar.
10. Has anyone ever worked on one? Did you have a positive experience? What kind of music did you play? What skills do you require? i.e sight reading How often did you work? Did it pay well?
11. I enjoyed viewing the results of this survey. I'm currently trying to learn how to sight read and so far I've been practising about 30 mins (almost) every day for the last 3 months which is both taxing and mind numbing. I've come a long way but I'm still miles off where I need to be to work at a professional level. I wish I'd had a tutor who valued it more when I was younger. My theory is ok but that is something else I am currently improving. Both have made me more confident in my playing and I find it much easier to communicate with other musicians. Only now can I look back and see how important they are.
12. I play electric and acoustic guitar quite a lot. Only ever played live once at my mates wedding. It was in a church, just me on acoustic and another bloke singing. It was scary as hell! Well out of my comfort zone. It went ok though.
13. Nice fella, Easy to deal with, item as described. Highly recommeded.
14.
How much was this new? or what year is it
I'm not sure but they are going for about £1800 new at the moment.

16. I've decided I'm not a jazz bass man which is a shame because this bass is beautiful and hardly used. There are a couple of areas of minor damage which are not very noticeable and purely cosmetic. Lacquer damage near each strap holder as pictured. I am looking for about £1000 but would prefer to exchange/part exchange for a Warwick or a Spector. I'm in Stockport, Manchester.
