1. The best p-bass tone I've had was with a Trace V4 + Big Ben 18". I haven't tried any other 18" boxes, but that one just 'sat' nicely in the mix. This live vid of mine has poor sound quality, but it's the Trace + BB with a Jazz. Sounds ok to me ....? 2. I prefer your version of 'Dynamite' over the original (and had to look it up to youtube to confirm what song it was - showing my age).. and 'JTWYA' made a nice start to the day with my morning coffee. Enjoyable. And now excuse me, I feel I need to practice more ..... Time spent on music is never wasted, IMHO...
3. (if you can excuse input from a 'new guy)... No-one has really touched on this aspect - your relationship with your daughter. Do you get on relatively well with your ex, or does she back-stab you to your daughter? Will your time with your daughter decrease significantly, or can it be 'worked around'? Is she old enough to understand what is going on? If it wasn't for the family aspect I would say - go for it. But as somone who has ended up a long way away from a child after the ex took advantage of the situation, I might suggest a little caution and consideration being given to the current and future relationship with your daughter.
4.
Thanks for the sterling work, Mike. I'll take one. £631.00 at Thomann right now looks like deal of the century!!
Welcome! I've never tried the Ibanez stuff, but appreciate their 'resuse' of the same amp head with several cabinets ala Genz Benz.

6. Well ... thanks for the responses. Hopefully we can avoid looking like overdressing tools; the frontman wants to go this way (i.e. overdressing), and I might suggest he does what he wants, and us other two can do the same. It seems to be quite a popular 'look' here in Estonia for the frontman to be dressed up and the rest of the band members to look like they are wearing yesterday's clothes. Suits me just fine!
7. I play in a blues / rock / psychadelica / etc trio (mostly covers, some originals) and we're about to start gigging ... but are stuck on what to wear on stage. If it helps, our band is called "The Rude Grooves" and we're using 70's porn movie posters as the basis for our promos (which actually works out a bit classier than you might think). I am no fashion diva, but I know we want to dress a little different / better than the audience... but not so much we're doing the 60s / 70s hippy thing, or end up wearing suits. G/f is not much help as she varies between 'you look good in anything', 'what about this?' (showing horrendous outfit found via google) and 'if you look too good for other women, I'll kill you'. Maybe some examples from other people will help? Oh ... and I'm (ahem) almost 40, our drummer is tattooed and pierced and in his 20s, guitar player / singer is a dead ringer for one of the Proclaimers and in his early 20s.
8.
Thank you les, is not kermint, the guy joined basschat only yesterday so........
Hmmmm ... unless this person has a profile somewhere else you can check (talkbass / ebay / harmony central), I'd suggest caution. In my experience it's extremely rare that someone wants to do a trade and *doesn't* have some kind of reputation available for checking online. edit: I appreciate the irony of me having few posts and also having joined yesterday, but I can point people to other accounts I have to check my credentials.
9. For me whenever I hear 'back pickup + fretless Jazz', it always reminds me Jaco in the same way that hearing muted trumpet reminds me of Miles. And I think most musicians can separate a musician's choice of delivery / choice of expression from their compositional / improvising ability. I'm not overly-enamoured with Jack Bruce's 'blat' bass tone, but he's nonetheless one of my favourite bass players.
10.
Hiya mike and welcome to the forum ,we are not a bad lot really and humour plays a big part in most threads ,i have to admit to spitting my bear out on more than one occasion!
I need to chew bears to fit in here? Thanks for the warm welcome, all.
11. A hearty hello to you all! I'm actually half Australian / half- Estonian - so I carry the psychological burden of being a convict's son AND of being repressed under the Soviet Union. I find playing bass to be an effective way of dealing with these issues, and have been doing so for ... err ... too long now. A couple of decades. Here in Tallinn I'm playing blues / rock / soul tunes with a couple of younger guys, hope to be out gigging 'soon'. I'm definitely a bit of a hacker at this, but my theory is that practice can largely make up for deficiencies in natural ability. Instrument-wise I'm a traditionalist, I guess- I prefer Fender basses, and have a couple of Japanese ones ('75 J-reissue, '62 P-reissue), a beater Mexican jazz and a '94 MM Sterling for slap (at which I am not so atrocious). Amplification wise it's small / light as I have no car ... GB Shuttle + Aggie GS112 and Epi 112. Have been reading the forums now and feel more at home with UK humour than the 'vibe' at TB so decided to join up. Thanks for having me, and would be happy (although it's a long shot) to catch up with fellow bassists in Tallinn for a beer. Cheers Mike PS Some tunes from previous projects are up here, if you care to listen http://www.myspace.com/mikeboth
