1. Never thought I would sell this rather unique bass but I am off to uni in September and after a rather expensive Interrail trip need to drum up some cash.

Here is the spec of the OLP:
Body: Basswood Maple top
[s]Neck: North American Maple
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Fingerboard: Maple on Natural Only
Frets: 22 Jumbo [/s]
Scale: 34"
Hardware: Chrome (Black on Black Only)
Pickups: 1 MusicMan-Style - exposed poles
Controls: 2 volume, 1 Tone Knob

But it comes with a fully fitted Status Graphite neck, see here

If that is not enough this bass was also previously owned and used by basschats one and only 'ped'! Don't miss this chance to own a piece of basschat history :)

The cost of a new OLP MM3 is about £190 and the Status neck costs £276.59 from Status.

Looking for £300

2.
Previous poster - he said he's on an Imac - No ASIO, its all supported under the Apple coreaudio standard.
Ahh didn't spot that!

Does the POD XT have a digital output? That would save a mic pre or two on your interface if your recording alot at the same time.

3. Hmm seems to be missing midi and doesn't seem to be all that powerful compared to some of its rivals.

I would love to have one of these to run my vsts instead of using a laptop but the cost is a bit prohibitive...

I wish Steinberg would allow the VST code to be used in linux as then I reckon it wouldn't be too hard to build a small stompbox computer.. Some day!

4.
only a Roland VS-2480
I have a soft spot for them. We did a few cds all plugged into that live and it was the best recording we ever made :)

5.
You can install the whole program to a USB stick and take it to another PC, retaining all your settings and sessions. It doesnt hammer my processor! I am only running a P4-HT 3Ghz and even with the processor reporting switched on it still hovered around below 10% for tracking stereo Bass against a midi guide track.
That sounds interesting. I would really like to give this ago after installing cubase and ending up not using it because it was overkill for what I wanted. I must say I enjoy the lite version of Ableton Live that came with my soundcard for just tracking down ideas but its a bit limited when you want to expand them. This might prove to be a good solution.

Apparently it works well under linux using WINE too..

6.
Slightly on a tangent, a funny comment I heard someone say about Timmy C's elaborate and highly secretive setup a while ago was "Nobody can get his tone, but 8 year olds can play his basslines", made me chuckle at the time.
Hehe bit unfair though I think he is a pretty good bass player. Got quite a serious double bass background in jazz I think too.

His tone is superb I must say, although on some of the live dvds it comes across as a bit farty. I suppose it fits better in the mix though.

7. I considered the mackie Onyx, there are some very cheap deals to be had and mackie gear is meant to be pretty solid. I can't remember why I didn't buy it though..

In the end I went for a M Audio FW410 which is alright although I personally wouldn't reccommend one as the drivers can be a bit of a pain. It had a lot of problems with the power management on my laptop.

Presonus Firebox is the smaller version of the Firepod and its pretty popular, I have a friend who has one and its survived being handled by a drummer so must be pretty solid :) I am actually quite tempted to swap my 410 for a firebox, I had bought one on ebay but the seller said he still needed it (grr) and so I had to go for a cheap deal on the M Audio instead. The 4 analog inputs on the firebox would be useful for recording drums..

Mind you if your just looking to record bass that usb lead will probably do just fine. If you want to be able to attatch a mic or any other gear maybe worth considering the Emu 0202 or 0404 which are both USB. Or if you would prefer firewire the Presonus Inspire 1394 looks good value albeit without midi, but that not might be an issue for you.

Wow that t.bone cable is cheap, would probably be worth buying it as I am sure it will do the job. I think behringer also make a similar kind of thing but with a few more features thats also very cheap.

8.
Because what I've bought and setup here does what I want and many other things that you could never do with a synth.
Fair enough.

Out of interest what does that do that a synth can't?

9. I am heading off to uni next year and am intent on joining the jazz group to try and improve my playing and have some fun. I have been speaking to a few people about what to learn/how the nights run as I have absolutely no experience of anything jazzy at all. I was given the following list of songs and told I could find them in the 'real book' which I probably had a copy of but should get one if I didn't.

Satin Doll
Nostalgia in Times Square
Blue Bossa
Fly me to the Moon
Mr. PC
Chameleon
Blue Monk
Black Orpheus
Take the A Train
Canteloupe Island
The Chicken (Jaco Pastorius)
Misty

Now I have been looking round on google and I get a wikipedia article telling me all about the real book and its history. Which is the version I should get? I assume the Hal Lenoard Bass Clef version?

I would also be greatful if anyone else could reccommend any good books for an introduction to jazz.

Many thanks

Chris

10. Mmm one of my favourite songs of all time. I came across it searching for the RHCP version which doesn't hold a candle to the original. Superb bassline and fantastic vocals, really sticky sibilant (sp?) sound.

I think somewhere there was a video on bass player tv by the bass player now touring with sly and the family stone and he showed you how to get that sound. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

11. Shameless plug coming up:

I'm selling at EXAR Pignose enevlope filter here for £60 posted.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17127

You can here some sound clips here http://www.public-peace.de/exar/pignose/pignose.htm I don't know how close they are to the sound you are looking for though as I haven't seen the dvd.

Cheers
Chris
