Hmm hadn't thought of that, I don't really know enough about any specific midi controllers to know whether or not they can do that.

How many samples do you need? Might be worth looking at one of the old Korg electribes I think its the ES model either mkI or II they go quite cheaply on ebay and might do what your after although I am not sure. Also worth noting there are quite a few models (older ones) in the SP range which may be setup differently.

Roland sampler & midi foot controller?

Ableton 8 is what I am most excited about, I hope I can get a free upgrade to 8 LE.

Freeamp 3 is quite a good free VST amp modeller, probably better for guitar but I never use amp modelling on clean bass anyway.

That's interesting, I have GR2 and find it really great. Ok so it only has one 'amp' model for bass, the SVT but that sounds great although to be honest most of my clean sounds just use the tube compressor. I find where it really shines is effects, some of the things you can do on there would be pretty much impossible on a pedalboard.

Just seen this on the Digital Village website, looks like a clever piece of kit. I like the ring of light knobs and having the tuner on the footswitch makes sense.

It would have been good to have been able to send a stereo Pre & Post signal down the SPDIF output though.

I was listening to this on iplayer this morning, very interesting. There have been a lot of good programmes on recently to mark motowns anniversary.

One thing I am slightly confused about is James Jamerson, as I understood it he was one of the main bass players on all Motowns releases but he got no mention where as a few other bass players did?

I think that is an Access Virus A controller by those keyboard pedals.

I have a slightly cheaper version of a midi controller which is a normal computer keyboard with most of the keys removed and bottle tops stuck onto the keys left to make a larger target for you foot. Works well!

Agreed. If you are only triggering midi you don't need a particularly powerful machine or an expensive interface. You can get a midi usb cable for about £5. Infact you could probably get away with using the demo version (free) if you knew someone with either the full or lite version who could load the clips for you.

Hotstepper is great for starting out, easy to use and you can build up some quite detailed patterns.

I think you can load your own samples too. Hydrogen is meant to be amazing but the Windows version is too buggy for me to use.

I find bass a great way to relax, around exams I always put on a couple of Sly Stone albums and jam along in the dark - impossible to feel stressed after that. Funk is gods gift to those feeling blue(!)

Did you specify the 0404 usb. I think they do a PCI card with the same name that is different, older and possibly not vista compatible. Have a look at the sound on sound review for the 0404 I am pretty sure they said it was ok.

I must say with M Audio I have found their build quality to be solid but customer service isn't great and I had a few problems with drivers.
