I use a Pearl Octaver which sounds fantastic, quite a dirty almost synthy tone. Mind you they are quite expensive on ebay (no longer in production) I am borrowing mine of my bass teacher.

I would suggest Backline Studios in Guildford it's only 2 minutes walk from the main station and the rates for their live room are quite good value. We might be able to negociate some kind of deal for having the liveroom for the whole day.
