  1. Well i couldn't find a 32" SC headless...So i decided to design and build my own. Had a pair of Peavy VFL's 5;s lying around so one's gone in the bridge (im still looking for it's preamp..it's about here somwhere!) and id thinking of dropping an S in the middle position (maybe mod one in after it's finished) My 2.9mm stainless wire just arrived after being lost/delayed last month, not sure if i'll be going high gloss or hard wax/poly wipe on yet...i should start a build log here for this i guess.
  2. Hey Kiwi A few questions (if i may) ? do you have a profile dxf for these necks? is the profile C/D/U ? What the board/fret radius ? what's the string spacing nut/bridge are these 34" scale ? Cheers Gizmo
  3. Since im sending the Sire Z7 back on Monday i'll have about £500 burning a hole in my pocket which BTB's do you fancy ?....some of the the newer BTB's have also caught my eye, there's a Ibanez BTB845V (a japanese only released 33" scale E-C) i quite fancy on the bay atm and there's a BTB SC (BTB865SC....WTF is it with ibbys lame naming....) up on Zenmarket that im mulling over (im a sucker for singlecuts) but with shipping/Import that would be up at around £600 & 3 months wait (i refuse to pay £120 to ship a bass via air vs £40 for surface)
  4. So are you now -B -BL & + C or +C+B - BL - Brass ?.....Confused Glad to hear it all worked out for the better .
  5. Hey Moki, I did i did (a cube 20) and it was a great little thing, these days im forced to use cans (please keep that noise to yourself) now i can't recall if i sold the cube on or if it got put in the attic or workshop somewhere...humm thanks for tripping the grey matter i'll try and find it!
  6. Hey Doooooooood /bow you still rocking/proging that custom 7 string? & Thx for the welcome back Yep i keep those basses around.....mostly as a ref for "how not to build stuff" & While i've been away from the Bass seat (i got into shred/fusion & classical guitar....sorry ) i did keep building stuff and even moved over to CAD/CNC just before Covid hit, I've been doing custom body and neck/fretboard work for folks who need a bit of help with their own builds or want replacement bodies for old gear etc etc for a few years now as well as some of my own guitar designs/builds, all spare/part time stuff but TBH im thinking of jumping into it full time later this year as a close death in the family has gotten me thinking about what i should be doing with my remaining days in this mortal shell (it also prompted me to pick up my basses again)...Im sure i'll get around to posting some build logs here soonish (i did post a few pics of current builds in the 3d printer thread) again thx for the welcome back You know if i only took note of YT as a ref for my question it seems you are 83.33333333333333 % correct ! (apart from the Warlock thing ) & YT was my first port of call to check in on what was New in the world of Bass....which i why i came here to ask the good Folk of BC for their input/output....seems Doublethump/sounding like a dotmatirx printer became a big thing ! Big thanks for all the feedback and replies /bow , Some of it is up my street, & other stuff not so much (although i am a lot more open minded that i was 15 years ago so i will give it all a listen) Other guys i've had on the new bassist (to me) playlist these past few days are Antoine Fafard (Sphere & Ad Perpetuum are both KIller prog/bass/fusion albums) & Felipe Andreoli - Resonance Johannes Zetterberg, some late 80/90's style fusion very CC EB Again thx for the replies and keep the rec's coming Cheers Gizmo
  7. that he did, well remembered Loved Randys stuff FMT was one of my first "bassist" fusion Cd's/Books and i learned a load about modes/slap/chords/harmonics from it
  8. So i've been out of the BASS/Bassist loop for a little while & after feeling the pull of the low end once again i thought i drop a post to ask about catching up on Who/What i've been missing out on for the past 15 years or so? My fav's of yesteryear player were/are guys like Bromberg/Manring/Hamm/Caron/Wooten/Malone/Miller/Larue/Campagnani/Nitti...etc, so all the slapper/taper/soloist kind of bassist that do the fusion/prog type stuff id guess, I've been catching up on these guys & sofar some good & some WTF is this mess moments Now i did drop by Youtube first to see what was up/down....BIG MISTAKE, WTF is with all this BASS BATTLE/Bass influencer stuff ? (no doubt at 52 im guessing its that i just "don't get it") 2 Guys that have popped up on the radar that i have on playback loop atm are Alex Lofoco & Fernando Molinari, both monster players that also have great tunes/groove...Id say that Alex is like all my fav player fussed into one with a health amount of himself, shame he only seems to have released one album in like 8 years? So any recommendations for me ? Cheers
  9. Thought of a 2nd i've always fancied. A Barrington, First time i saw one of these was on the cover of Randy Covens (R.I.P.) Funk Me Tender, Ghost built by ESP (before they were ESP) never seen one this side of the pond
  10. @BaggyMan Has a space 5 up here @BC at what seems like a great price, I tried one at fairdeal in bham last year, it seemed like it was a solidly built "modern" vibe bass with good smooth tunning headless hardware, might have been because it was hanging in an AC'ed show room but the neck was bone dry and im not a fan of the openpore satin finish type...had a few basses with it before and I found if you look at them they get marks/dents.....i pref a nice 80's lolipop highgloss
  11. I had much the same question earlier this month... n my case after a lot of YT review watching i grabbed a Sire Z7 5 string at just under £400 (b-stock) from Thomann....Lovely neck, a very versatile and great sounding Pup/Preamp set up, Quality hardware and finish that felt way above it's price tag...setup was dog doo but might have been due to changes made by the first buyer... all that said it's boxed up waiting to be collected by DHL for return because it's boat anchor heavy, not that i was expecting a Light bass due to the alder body, but the shortness of the lower horn makes it impossible to play while sitting because it either slips off you leg or neck dives. Id say Jakester's Yamaha above is a total bargain, id have taken it myself but 17mm is my max tolerance for spacing these days I've found. GL
  12. That's Mr Pink thank you very much
  13. so....i've arranged to return the Z7 to thomann, as i've said above once setup it was a great playing/feeling/sounding bass but it's just boat anchor heavy & the neck drive/unconfutable to play sitting was the straw... id be interested in checking out one of the MS headless sires, anyone get/tired one ?
  14. maybe the folks of Greenland can take up the slack !
