1. I'm taking the plunge as am wanting to raise some funds got go back to Fender after all these years, so I'm selling my Spector Euro 5 EX 5-string Bass which have had since new - bought in Feb 2008 I like it & it sounds great but I just don't seem to get on with 5-strings as much as I do 4 It's in excellent condition - tuners, neck, frets, bridge, pickups, pots etc + the finish is mirror smooth except for 2 small dings on the body (back & side) Is currently fitted with straplocks & strap. I've looked after well and always transported in a Hiscox hard case which I'll throw in (if wanted). Anyone living within travelling distance of Nottingham is welcome to give it a try. I am hoping for something in the region of £1150 Thanks
If your current bass cost you >£1000 and you're worried it will only now fetch £500 then don't worry, there are plenty of other Warwick owners out there.
Why thank you so much you cheeky so 'n so It's a Spector Euro 5 EX - although I did try out a Warwick 5 string at the same time & went with the spector because I felt the bottom B was tighter and more punchy whilst the Warwick's B felt too wobbly and wolly sounding for my taste.

If you can't get the reasonable price and don't need to sell, then hang on until you can.
Thanks for the advice - I wouldn't say any of my gear falls into the collector status (I have had some serious p0rn envy since joining this site) so will take your advice and give it a try but walk away if interest isn't good. 5. Before I go on I want to be clear that I'm not trying to sell here but am interested in opinions of others. My question is this - of my meagre collection, I have two main basses that I use. Firstly a 5-string bass that I hardly play (although is by far the most expensive & highest spec) and another 4-string that is my run-to bass and no matter how hard I try - I pick it up every time I practice or jam as having tried both, I've found I prefer 4-strings & find them much more comfortable to play. I've been trying to make up my mind if it's worth keeping the 5-string even though I hardly ever play it - but I find myself unsure of trying to sell it as I know it cost me a lot (over a grand) but I keep thinking is it worth it & how much would I have to write off just to sell it (& don't even get me started on ebay/paypal rip-off fees). From those of you who have sold equipment - should you have to be prepared to make a huge loss on it if no one is interested / do you just hang onto it & see even if your not using it? How do you go about getting a realistic value for something and at which point do you just say it's not worth it (or f**! it) lol. Cheers for any opinions / advice. (also apologies if this is posted in the wrong place)
  6. It's a beaut If I had the cash, I'd snap it up. Think I might have to sell my Spector (or a Kidney) to raise some capital

Thanks to everyone for their 'Welcomes'
  8. OK scrub the bit about the fret noise - just looked at another of the videos. Nice bright bass with fresh, clean strings & slight OD (Sansamp or Ampeg type tone) and some practice on your technique. I found that not having the right bass was holding me back but I could compensate with a Tech21 VT Bass to dial in the angry tone got a nice similar sound using that.
  9.
Also, try turning up the bass and treble and reducing the mids a little on your EQ, that should help get rid of some of the twang, but it'll only help to a certain extent.
As Truckstop says - It's not just your fretting / hammering and your fingering technique you need to work on. Your bass sound also has a lot to do with it. You need something that can growl - preferably with a fresh, new set of strings to give that bright clean tone & have lots or treble as it's the heavy playing and the fret buzz that you actually want to get this sort of sound. Also sounds like there's a little overdrive on the amp giving it that slightly cranked sound. I loved the chilli tone when I first learnt to play - finally realised I had the wrong bass & although I could get the technique down, without the right equipment I'd never get the sound. Chasing the sound has cost me a lot of money over the years lol

Morning all, My name is Simon (friends call me Si). Live in Nottingham and I've played bass off and on for almost 19 years. I've played in a couple of bands over the years - not in one at the moment but have just started looking again. Had some big rig changes last year as I was using a Hartke 3500 head with Ashdown 115 & 410 cabs but it was causing too much agro moving everything between gigs & practices & rehearsing at home. So I blew up the amp and flebayed the cabs (well blowing up the amp wasn't part of the plan & still need to get it fixed) and bought myself a nice Gallien Krueger Backline 210 combo which meets my main needs for now of 1. being small & a lot less hastle to lug around for practising etc and 2. is still loud enough to cover most gigs when needed. I play acoustic, fretless, 4 & 5 string - mostly rock but love blues, funk & am still trying to learn slap. Now have a Line6 Bass Floor Pod to go with my (mostly) custom built pedals (I like tinkering with them almost as much as using them) Main Influences are:- Chris Wolstenholme, John Deacon, Tim Commerford and Donald "Duck" Dunn and everyone and anyone else who inspires me. That's enough of me waffling on. Hi all
  11. I bought a Gallien Krueger Backline 210 last year when I replaced my full stack as I wanted something smaller to lug around (besides with a 350w head + 115 & 410 cabs - I was never turning it above 4, even for the loudest gigs we played). I wanted something that could sound good in the house at low levels, at practice & also capable of holding it's own for most gigs (but with the option to add an extra cab when I really needed it). I looked at the Line6 LoDowns & tried a few but they sounded like hyperactive- punchy boxes (in my humble opinion) & didn't have the power for my needs - On the +side I did like the kickback option & the effects. Thats why I settled on the GK. It has the kickback & I managed to track down a Line6 Bass Floor Pod for the few effects / wah etc I occasionally use) The Line 6 was good price wise though & I have seen them in action at small 'intimate' gigs.
  12. Again thanks - you've also saved me an embarrassing call to the states
  13.
You might be able to sell it as non working but that'd really push the price down. You could scrap it and sell it as parts but the chances are that you'll end up throwing the majority of those parts away in two years time when you haven't been able to sell them. I'd be more inclined to get the parts needed from Korg, get it back to the original spec and sell it on as refurbished - you clear the whole lot out in one go and make it available to a far wider market than just the electronics enthusiast.
Thanks for the advice - I think I will see about getting it repaired. Time to call Samson & see how much they're charging for the power module
  14. I have a Hartke 3500 (with corners and rack ears) . . . Now after doing a good turn for (now ex-guitarist) and offering to fix some of his PA cabs for him I made the mistake of using my beloved amp as to test for faults. After a quick turn of very quiet sound level quickly getting fainter - the amp went pop, wiz, bang and then silent [the day of a gig too] So after disassembling the speaker I quickly found out that the crossover had gone and went short as it warmed up (cause of blown amp established). That left me with my amp to fix. I pulled it apart & did all the usual checks then found that the output transistors had blown. So after a quick hunt round, I found a set of compatible replacements for the 4x pairs of output transistors which I fitted and checked again. Good signal with tone source when quiet but as I turned the gain up - a distortion creped in (on the scope it looked like a saw wave on the negative signwave - top half fine / bottom half jagged). The louder the output gain the more distorted the output. Now my dilemma is this - I have replaced amp with a lovely Gallien Krueger backline which I am loving & looking forward to cranking when am back in a band again. I have a semi-working Hartke 3500 which I don't need so am wondering if it would be better to call Samson & order the replacement output (loaded) PCB then sell it as refurbished or to sell it as non-working or to break it and sell individual bits (case / front panel / transformer / pre-amp-board / send-return board / output board / heatsink etc). Any advice gratefully received as am loathed to flebay it and walk away with a miserable £20. Thanks Si
  15. I'm looking to go wireless again but have not had much luck in the past. Always interference, signal loss, noise etc - If I could get a good sound in practice, you could guarantee that something would go wrong when I tried live so in the end I just gave up I've been looking at the line 6 and the BRACE DWG-1000 - there are lots of good reviews for the Line 6 (especially tone handling) but I would be interested if anyone could give me a heads up on the BRACE DWG-1000. Is it any good / reliable? What's the range / tone like please? Si
