My wife had a heart attack on saturday night. Thought it was heartburn but it went to her arms. Took her to the hospital anyway to see and yes, found the markers for a heart attack so was taken in, her BP was over 200.

She has been kept in for tests, and although they don't think it was a serious blockage that needs surgery she has to stay in to be monitored for the next few days.

It is amazing how it shifts your life perspective

Hope she recovers quickly, all the best to you both and your family :)

The 4-piece covers band I'm playing in is finishing up in December and we have 3 gigs left to play.

I've never really been a proper member. I'm excluded from any discussions, am part of a band WhatsApp group that is called "Here we go again..." referring to the large number of bassists they've had but there's little other than logistics in that group.

When we turn up to gigs, I'm allocated a spot, rather than defaulting to high hat side of the drummer. It's essentially wherever the guitarist doesn't want to go.

This week I received a message from the guitarist, through whom I get all the important comms, saying that I was required to stand down for the next gig as they were using a previous bassist because he needed a gig to cheer him up after having a hard time (bereavement). No discussion,  straight out of the blue. I've not been happy for a while, so I responded saying, OK but get him to play the other remaining gigs, and I'm out. He's probably not available for the next ones because he's got commitments with his own band!

This isn't normal behaviour within any bands I’ve ever been in before. It was never made clear that I was a "permadep" and it was never agreed that recently the stage "bants" was targeting me with some pretty vile comments, thinly masked as "jokes". I also can't do anything right when it comes to packing up and helping. There's tons of other things I've not been happy with, mostly related to comms (conversations, feedback, ignoring my messages) and being kept out of the loop.

The gigs have been good and it's been a learning experience but I'm bailing and with good reason. I would never treat anyone the way I've been treated.

Anyway, I'm starting with a new (to me) band and it's all a very different vibe.

They sound like a bunch of arseholes and you are better off out of it !!, good luck with the new band :)

As the Basschat community has always been fantastically supportive in checking out new music, we released our first brand new music in over a year. “Gloss” is out today via Ray Records and streaming on all the usual platforms. As always, we collaborated with Haunting the Atom to make this fun video.

For anyone wanting a bit more background, it’s influenced by the post punk bands of our youth. I wanted a Stooges / Velvet Underground simplicity to the music (one note solo and bass line) but with an intelligent lyric. It isn’t typical of next year’s forthcoming third album and is probably the rockiest track we’ve written. Filmed in my house (which stunk of incense for several days afterwards), we had a blast doing this.

Loved it, will buy the album when it comes out, really liked the writing on the mirror thing, cool video and a great song :)

Decent rehearsal on Sunday, and Shout is in the set list for our gig in Wakefield which is good. Still enjoying the practice studio in general but at one point there was an awful eggy smell that put us off for a few minutes, so next time I'll be booking a room away from the toilets (nobody in the band claimed responsibility, which they would have if it was one of them!). Looking forward to the next gig because it's been a few months since the last one.

The one that smelt it dealt it !! ;) 😛 😂

Busy day yesterday. We had the first gig from 2-3 at an outdoor 'festival' like thing in dorset, that we had done 3 years in a row. They had this thing where there were electric bands on the truck in the garden and acoustic bands in the teepee thing next to it between, so 1 hour for each - but it was exactly 1 hour for each, so you got on the stage, set up, plugged in, they did a line check and then you waited for your time to go and there was no gap, so obviously sound wasn't good on stage, and not so great outside as there was no time to setup. But it went down ok - it was raining a little when we were setting up, but by the time we played it was very sunny and well attended. All in all there was a nice atmosphere there and it was a good afternoon. I would have stayed longer but in the evening we had to be back nearer home for a wedding.

The wedding we got to at 6 but they were doing speeches so we had to wait outside and not make noise. We waited for a while, they had finished the speeches but the staff wanted to move all the tables, we waited another half an hour, so finally it was closer to 7 by the time we set up to be ready by 8, for some reason it took a while to get ready as everyone was in each others way. Did the first hour, there was noone in the building, they were all outside in the sun, which sort of makes sense, way of weddings. Then it was time for food so everyone came back in and I put music on on the ipad, we went back on at half 9 to play to 11:15, the guitarist was very grumpy to go past 11. But the second half was dancing all the way through and we went down a storm so that was good. We couldn't play the last encore as it was 11:16 so the guitarist wouldn't play, and he had to be home in 5 minutes after that, so he went, but the singer stayed to help me with the PA

Very profitable day all in all and got all the gigs for the weekend over and done with in a day

Oh dear does your guitarist turn into a pumpkin if he's not home by midnight !! ;) 😛 😂
