Send And Return

Is it better to use the send/return for effects rather than through the effect and then into the amp? I guess that the main reason is that when the effects are off then the sound should be pure, but i guess that its not as simple as that Also, would you guys use your usual guitar leads for this connection?
2. Personally speaking, as i play in a covers band, i tend to play it as it is (if its not too tricky for me!! LOL) Some of my fave songs are relatively simple, and have a lovely groove that people recognise. At a recent open mic evening, there were some talented bass players (not me), who pretty much ruined some classics by adding in lots of fingerboard gymnastics and straying too far away from the basic feel of the number. Its ok to have a couple of clever bits in, but sometimes its almost like the duelling banjos! Like its been said, less can be more, and the spaces are as important as the bits we play.
3. Does anybody have any recommendations for guitar leads? I've never really given it too much thought, but should really give my new Stingray the best chance when i finally decide on the colour!!
4. Great!! So now i don't know which colour, which fretboard, which scratch plate or wheather t choose 2 or 3 eq!!! Looks like i'll have to spend another day touring the music stores of Essex Wish me luck

6. I recently p/x'd mine back to the same shop after 6 months, and only lost £20! Its a great little combo, and could hold its own in smaller venues. We used to Di and use it as a monitor at larger places. Great deal, good luck.
Not much I can add here but I wonder why the 3eq was recommended to you over a 2eq which is generally more loved in the community. (yybass : I think you had a wee brain fart there buddy. )
I wouldn't say that the 3eq was exactly 'recommended'. It was just what happened to be hanging on the wall. Is the 2eq preferred then?
8. How about Alright Now? Only have to play half the song, and the leap to the end of the fretboard is good to practice accuracy?!!
9. My first thought was black with rosewood. I'd seen a checked scratchplate on a website. thought it might look good for my mod roots with a check strap.
10. Thanks everybody. The sound was really good. And the eq seemed to cover most of my needs. I've never been too much into slap, but even that seemed easier. The guys in the band will be pleased. they've got a list of RHCP numbers to do. Just need to decide for definite on the colour now. It was defo black before i started to look, then trans red when i played it, and i've just seen a teal one on the forum!! And a black scratch plate or something a little more colourful? But defo a maple fretboard, but then again the rosewood does look good with the black..............!!!
11. Hello to you all. Been having a read of some of the threads recently, and though i'd join in. I'm Dave from Essex, and passed the age of 40 a few years back. Have been in bands since school, and gigged regularly until i was about 40, when i just stopped, and sold up. About a year ago, my new wife bought me an Ashdown combo, and a Peavey Cirrus 4B (bubinga). I soon got back into it, and have been in a few cover bands since. Have just joined another local band that shows promise of regular gigs. Lots of talent and enthusiasm. I've upgraded the combo into a Mag 300 head and a 410 deep cab. The sound is great (to me). Am just looking at a new MM Stingray 3eq. It seems great to play, and has a great range of sounds. I also have a ME20B pedal, although i admittedly don't use it enough. It provides tuning duties, and a little chorus and compression. I wouldn't call myself a great bassist, but i think i do a good job providing a solid rhythm section
12. Hi Guys (and gals). This is my first (of many stupid) posts. I'll do an intro next by the way. I'm about to upgrade to a new bass, and had really not given a Musicman any thought, preferring 'through neck', Ibanez shaped basses. Realising that this wasn't really the best way to spend my money, i took a trip to my local shop and played a few different makes. The guy, Russ, suggested i try a MM Stingray 3eq in trans red (probably the last colour i would have chosen, but now my fave). He set me up with an Ashdown rig the same as my own, and the Stingray was a dream to play. The range of sounds, action, feel, everything was just right. I'm a bit of a cynic, though, because most things sound good at the shop, but i've pretty much decided that a Musicman will soon be joining me on stage. So anyway, down to the question. Personally, i prefer the look of the Sterling. I'm sure that the chrome control panel is something that many others prefer on the Stingray. But can you get a Stingray without the panel (as per the Sterling). And what are the main differences between the Stingray and the Sterling? I think the Sterling is smaller, but as for sound/playability? Alternatively is the Sterling available with a 3eq set up? Well thats it for now. Thanks for the replies that i'm sure will follow, and look forward to becoming a regular on this great forum. Dave
