1. Thanks for the tabs and the theory for the 'missing notes'. (they were there all along!). It seems to do the trick. I agree that certain songs have been done to death, and most of them have been mentioned in this thread i reckon!! KoL - yes we do Molly's Chambers (simple), Sex on Fire (boring), and Use Somebody (i can live with that tbh) Mr Brightside - everybody seems to do it judging by this thread. But the thing is.........the crowd request them, screaming in between every song. We've even been abused by a crowd of drunken girls for not doing Brightside!!! And at the end of the day/night, they're the one that pay our wages, so we play what they want to hear. And whats wrong with Mustang Sally?!! Its a classic!!
2. Thanks chaps. It wasnt a major concern, just thought that a little fan would aid the air circulation around the back. I might get a little one and have it wafting a breeze ACROSS the back of the rack. I'm sure the designers were more than aware of operating temperature in a racked set-up, so all is good!!
3. I tried my Hartke Kilo out for the first time last night, at any real volume. i noticed that it got warmer than previous heads i've used, and guess that this is due to the valve pre-amp. Because the head is designed to go in a rack, which it already is in, i'm also assuming that it is designed to run at its optimum at this temperature. So on that basis, would it be a good idea to have a small fan for extra cooling/circulation at the back, or would that not be advisable?
4.
P.s. Congrats for New Amp Day!
You too mate!! finally i have a chance of being louder than the guitarists!!
5. Does your band include certain songs on the set list that they like to play, but not that really popular or well know by the audience? I find that the guitarists are the main culprits. They learn a new fancy riff, which is, to be honest, very impressive and then insist on including it in the set list. I admit that some numbers are just good fun to play, if you're a musician, but dull as dishwater if you're in the audience listening to it. And it works the other way round as well. I've played songs before where i've virtually nodded off while playing, but the crowd would scream for more. Now as the sensible musicians, that we bass players are, i'm sure that we wouldn't allow these self indulgent moments to shape our set lists...........or would we? Do you have any songs that you perform 'just for you'?
6. Well...............its bloody heavy!! What a beast! I'll let you know how it sounds when i've used it at volume, but it sound a dream at practice levels. And what a wide range of sound I can so easily dial in. Can't wait for the first gig. DD
7. Thanks guys. I was going in the right direction, and although i don't really understand the theory, i seem to have been doing the kind of things you've suggested. I'll probably get to rehearsal tomorrow and find the guitarists do something slightly different over that passage and we'll end up clashing!
8. This is my version. I think its a little different, but i've played it for years and got away with it!! G----------------16--14--13--14------------18--16--14--16--14--13--14-13-14-13-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D------14--16---------------------------------------------------------------------------------16--14--13----------16--14--13-14-13--------------------------------------------- A---14------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------16--14---------12--11--12--11------ E--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------12- G--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D--------------------------------------------------------------------14-(slide)---18------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------14--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E------11--9--7--5--4--2-(slide up)--7----0-----------12------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hope that helps.
9. Does anybody cover The Killers number, Mr.Brightside? Towards the end there is a slow passage where the bass plays up at the octave. All the tab i've seen shows single notes, but it sounds as if there are chords being played. Any ideas? Thanks guys
10. Sir Duke is always a fave of mine. Possibly sounds more impressive than it really is and most people will recognise it. Alternatively, don't invite your friends round, and buy your guitars online!! Its worked well for me for years!!
11. Another vote for the Kilo from me. According to the courier tracking number, it'll be taking delivery of mine tomorrow. Plus my new Ray will be closely following it, so it should be a good week all in all!!
12. If you put your self on YouTube, you have to expect to be kicked in the n*ts i guess!! But then you need to be able to take the rough with the smooth. Possibly he should have waited until he got the groove going a little more. At least he's got most of the notes right, probably a higher percentage than at one of my gigs TBH!!
13. Sad news. Bought my first real 5 string (hey, that'd make a great first line for a song...hmmm?!) from you and it has got me hooked. Always good, unbiased, friendly advice when we spoke. I'll come to see 'No More Heroes' as soon as our gigs aren't clashing, Chris. See you on Facebook mate. DD
14. Not really sure what they would expect to see, but how about something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZyQE8LNKAk Reasonably straight forward parts, but i think it sounds good all together. Or maybe a bit of Bach?!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKU0-wIxzbk&feature=related Good luck
15. does anybody have experience of the Hartke 4x10 cab or the Hydrive? Apart from the the hydrive being rated at 1000 watts is it much different to the 410XL. The XL is £200 less than the hydrive and I don't really need 1000 watts although extra headroom is always handy I guess.
16.
Stingrays are sh*t, you wouldn't catch me playing one You know what they say though, it don't exist without pics
I was shocked to see somebody bad mouthing a Stingray, but then i realised it was you, before i clocked the smiley face!! I'll post a pic as soon as i can, and make it real
