  1. MXR Bass Auto Q in good condition, working fine.  The only issue is the battery cover has gone walkabout so some gaffer tape is doing the necessary duty.

This is an envelope filter/auto wah with additional LFO (or wobble) that you can dial in.  I've stopped using effects so this is surplus to requirements.

Happy to post within the UK at buyer's cost, or collection from Harrogate, delivery to Leeds also available.

  2. I take a fretted and a fretless, and tend to play one set on one, and the second set on the other.  Mix them round too.  I've never had a string break or any other issue that needed a second bass.   Mike Watt does (in normal times) a couple of hundred gigs a year and as far as I know only takes one bass out.  I guess in an emergency a support band might sort him out, but he seems to cope.

In general I totally agree about OTT histrionic singing - can't stand it.

Love Billy's voice, but I recently discovered the Divine Comedy have recorded a version of Party Fear Two and without the distraction of the vocals (and, to be fair, production) of the original, the quality of the song really comes to the fore.  Worth checking out.

  4. I have basses and guitars to hand in the room where I'm working so pick on up 5 or 6 times a day for 5-10 minutes.  So more than usual.  I've put the ashtrays on one of my basses and have been completely adjusting my right hand style to suit.  I used to anchor my thumb on the neck pickup, but now I'm resting my thumb across the strings, almost jamerson style, and resting fingers 3 and 4 on the astray.  Seems to be working well, feels less tiring and a little faster.

  5. I saw him play at the Barbican not long before he died.  He was so frail he had to be led onstage, but then he sat down and picked up his violin and was like an 18 year old again.  It was amazing.  One of the most natural musicians ever.
