1. I would say Dingwall would have developed a fair amount more interest since Nolly (Periphery) started using them. I have his signature bass but not because of his signature... just because it's a fantastic bass. In all honesty I actually prefer it to the Afterburner 1 I had a while back.

I think there are people who will go out and buy gear just because X has used it, although I think this is more common with guitarists.

What the hell is the deal with that? It's an audition why are you trying to catch me out? was weird... didn't get it in the end which is fair enough as I was totally unsuitable for the kind of image they were trying to go for.

    ... all experience I guess.
Part of me can kind of understand that way of doing it...not saying I would audition like that but I can see it's positives. I know that a lot of what my end up doing comes from improvised jams so this naturally ends up in us just making stuff up at gigs every so often. I'm pretty sure its extremely unprofessional but it's fun so I don't really care

I imagine it was to see how you would adapt under pressure and when you weren't prepared.

If Jamerson, Jaco and Larry Graham could change modern music within a 20 fret limit then I'm not sure what problem were talking about!
Different styles and music has progressed so much since then.

As far as the whole 20 vs 24 frets thing though. I only buy basses with 24 or more. not necessarily because I use the notes but more because to my eyes they look better and feel nicer to play.

  4. I don't gig that often (generally only a couple every month). I only have 2 basses and because of public transport I can only really take one to each gig. Both of the basses I use are -what I would consider to be- extremely versatile so that makes needing a particular one not an issue.

If I could have more basses then I certainly would but at the moment it's not meant to be!

Not keen on bastardising my new bass just yet... Might come to that tho

    Cheers

It's not noticeable in any way from the outside. It basically just fills the hole so that the screw has something to hold onto.

  6. I'm not sure of the actual answer to your question but I had this issue when changing strap buttons. I just filled the hole with wood and then screwed in the smaller screw and its rock solid now.

I wouldn't boil coated strings. Or strings with any plastic due too how much tension will be on it could make reliability a issue.

Boiling strings does work it varies. I find rounds last forever with me anyhow and I hate bright strings so now only use flats.

If you like fresh strings, The strings direct own brand are cheap and rumour has it made by rotosound when I used rounds I found them decent enough.
I find that Rotosounds are basically dead the moment they come out of the packet (every ones I've tried have been that way at least. Chances are they wouldn't fit on the Dingwall unfortunately. I use Elixirs on my other bass and have no issues with how long they last (ages) but find any other brand is dying within a month.

For coated strings, the only ones I found any use at all were Elixirs. I don't see the logic in trying to boil a coated sring. If the coating has been compromised boiling isn't going to put it back together.
I agree. I've tried a lot of different string types and eventually settled on Elixirs as they just keep on going. I wouldn't try boiling them as I imagine the coating wouldn't like it but mostly because there isn't really any need to!

I've boiled the strings earlier (Payson Stainless Steels) and they actually sound good as new at the moment. I'm sceptical of how long they will be that way though.

  8. Advertising for a singer for a funk/rock type originals band a while back. Someone turned up, hadn't listened to what we had sent him for an idea of our music and proceeded to say that he only every really does pop-punk.

Also back when I was looking for a band I put up an ad and had about 5/6 replies. One of which actually just said "We need bass player". Not only were they miles outside of where I was looking for, they also were way off the criteria I was looking for. I said originals band trying to get something a bit unusual and they were a rock cover band.

Thank you very much for doing that , is that picture of the tape measure with the protective base in place ? I just got an Email from Mono & they reckon it will fit easily ?
That picture is with the tape measure pressing on the bottom of the gig bag (whilst keeping the bag and measure straight up.)

Will take one with the bass in it tomorrow for you. To be honest. I reckon it would fit if I'm honest but obviously it's an investment!

I got shot of a lot of mine through the Recycling forum

There's plenty of people on here who are happy to take a set of deadened rounds of you!

I've decided to go down this route :) - link down below for those interested

  11. My dishwasher is a sink (I'm old fashioned like that).

I've never tried it previously partially cause I've heard it only revives them for a few days but my current strings are dead and I'm a bit skint really!

I live a small flat and I can't say the girlfriend would be happy with the place smelling like methelated spirits. Wouldn't be great for my asthma either I imagine!

  12. had a rummage through the cupboards and found 6 sets of strings.

    D'addario (pro steels I think) - 4 string set

black threaded strings (couldn't figure out the brand) - 4 string set

    [s]DR Neons - pink/red (box said red but they're more pink) - 5 string set[/s] GONE

    D'addario (again, I think pro steels) - 2 5 string sets

Elixir Stainless steel - 5 string set

All of these are used so will not be mega fresh sounding. They will all have been cut for 34" Warwick 3-2 or 2-2

Happy to post for the cost of postage

  13. I've never boiled a set of strings before as I generally use coated strings but I'm contemplating trying it with an old set of Payson strings I have but they have a plastic ball end (is that what that bits called?)

Just wondering if this would cause an issue...I don't really want melted plastic in my pots.

    Stunning!! Absolutely stunning!!

The photos of this bass on the ACG website don't do it justice! The quality of the woods and craftmanship is more than evident in your photos. That's a really beautiful bass.
The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. That was my thought when I saw the bass for the first time.

So many tiny little details that just make it a pleasure to play and to look at...probably why I keep it right next to the tv...something actually good to look at!
