  1. That's compact! How's the Jazz bass sound through your TC cab, so you have a TC amp too? (I've a BAM200 and an active Lakland JO5 Jazz looking for a light, punchy cab for pub pop/rock/blues gigs)
  2. Cool to see your workdesk. That's a lot of cases! Each with an instrument inside? Those electrical sockets strongly hint continental Europe. The stone wall narrows it down a bit, maybe to one of the romance countries?
  3. Blimey! Wasn't expecting the...errr...creativeness What stuff do you make with all those parts?
  4. Irrational dislikes? visually messy pedalboards too many wires basses that don't look normal (not in the popular styles of Fender, Musicman, etc) Fender Mustangs headless basses bandmates who repeat the same old corny jokes (and chuckle away before they can get it out of their mouths) on stage to an unimpressed audience - maybe that's rational Flea's playing (sorry fans), but not his basslines grating colours!
  5. Curious, how much AI went into making that image? 😉
  6. This happened to me a few days ago If band A is an "open marriage" where it's fine for members to be in other bands, then join the one(s) you want to. To leave, later on you can honestly say to band A you don't have the time/memory/musical interests/money/whatever any more due to your lifestyle changes. For me I needed to focus on the bands that I'm playing with that I'm actively gigging with, even though band A was one of the first I joined. Good luck!
  7. This journey, into bass playing? What made you pick up that first bass at the start of this long and winding road? Sold my beloved saxophone (Conn Connqueror 30M tenor) for food to Macaris in the early 80s and he offered a bass, compo amp at cost with the bulk in cash. I'd never played a bass before, but that was it. Do you still have the same fire and enthusiasm? Do you still love it? More so. Realised I enjoy the whole process of playing live music for people, more than I did many of the jobs I had that I retired from. What has changed along the way? Your taste in music, taste in basses? Both, taste in music and basses and gear generally got wider ! Both got wider in taste. Got more into covers, less than originals though it's a treat to play with a good singer-songwriter. Realised I can be better and get myself there. What was the first bass? A black Westone Thunder 1A And what’s the latest? An inexpensive black Thomann special (5-string fretless acoustic) with black nylon tapewounds.
  8. Had a rehearsal today with the local pop classics and northern soul covers band with our new dep drummer which went really well for him. We covered a couple of sets. 2½ hours of playing, 2 hours chat!
  9. A big festival that goes brilliantly for the whole band, organisers and punters! Back to reality, for the pub and function gigs I'm doing... * a crowd, that nearly fills the place, that dance and with fun banter * no gear issues, operational or transport * bandmates can hear themselves and everyone else without going out ears ringing at the end too much * we all play really well, we entertain, we sound very good and get compliments * a few punters effusively enthusiastically book us for their function and others take our details * we get paid a bonus (very rare)
  10. Wouldn't the vast majority of us have messy music desks? Mine is. Go on mate, you can do it. 😁

    Valeton GP-5

@synthaside like you I have a trusty Zoom B3 that I've solely used for nearly a decade, no other pedal. I'm still very fond of it, it can handle whole gigs with it's versatile DI so I never needed a pedalboard. Until now. Going wireless sent me on a new path... Here's a snippet from the first gig of the GP-5 tone "Fing(er) Bass" direct to my bass combo Ampeg BA210-v2 with it's EQ high Mi, low Bass+Treble (the inverse of scooped). No other pedal or effect at all. SNIPPET of Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) - 20250823 - Soul Destination.mp3 It's recorded with no added effects or processing on the recorder or on my laptop, i.e. that's as faithful a sound on stage, on the floor between the bass drum and my pedalboard with the combo behind me. Hence why the drums are super clear too. Good luck with your efforts with the band.
  12. Was just taking a pic to reply to a thread mentioning a Zoom B3 and thought it might be of interest to see people's desks with all the good and bad on it, the cool things, the mundane things, the choice of things.....so here's mine 😁. I've taken over the front room bay window with my bass gear and my wife has let me, just about get on with it, but she cringes when we have non-musician visitors.🫣🤔😁 So right now, take a pic and share your desk!
  13. I'm watching this video again, right now and the sounds IMA is getting out of his (world class?) bass and (ditto) chops & feel with this MXR Synth pedal is surely, world class, because these preset sounds are very very close to the recorded versions of the tracks he helped design it, to emulate. I agree with some that it's better when he is on his own, but then that's almost true whenever you get two Americans together on YouTube, unless one of them is Rick Beato 😬. I definitely want one, but the price is not for everyone!
  14. 🤣 Classic. This thread is making me think twice about being so enthusiastic for wedding band work!
  15. Nice to see a B3 in operation! For size reasons I'm trialling a GP-5 but I do miss the option with my B3 of setting up 3 effects in a patch (compressor, chorus, octave) and switching between them or in combo very easily. Great pics! I need to raise my game! 🤪
  16. Wow, I just had a look through some of your previous posts @ChrisDev and your website of transcriptions and learning material. Astonishingly good! You have provided a wonderful free resource with such dedication over the years - its stunning. I made a small donation today. And boy do you deserve donations and patrons. I'll be coming back and having a look at some of the songs for help and inspiration or just for fun. Whereabouts do you live in Belgium? I worked in Mons 2014-17 and played in a rock band for fun there.
  17. Think it's my first post of a gig, so here goes! Overview: I was asked to dep Friday afternoon for 2 gigs at the weekend, by a band a mate is in, but I'd never rehearsed with them. 30+ songs in the set, most were familiar too me as a listener, but I'd not played 80% of them before. Charts of a sort** were provided as PDFs. Tablets fine on stage. I'm not a fluent notation reader. Many non-original keys and arrangements. Cue, intensive learning over 24 hours. It was a very challenging couple of gigs, lots of things that could go wrong, did go wrong with songs, gear, tech, etc. Learnt again to hang in there, trust my ears, play for the band and get through it. Overall a great experience. VID20250824205002.mp4 Venue: A big bar in Skegness Band: an 8-piece Soul & Motown covers band Structure: 2 Sets of 15 songs each, plus encores. 9pm start. Pay: not enough 🤣 Gear: 5-string Jazz (Lakland Skyline JO5) wireless to my pedalboard, out to my amp (Ampeg BA-210v2) and DI to the band mixer for IEMs. ** Mostly lyrics with chords, tab or notation snippets of key riffs, a few songs only with full notation, some without any, some with a fingered key (say A), but drop Eb, so output key is really Ab so necessary to transpose on the fly, silent parts not consistently shown, key changes, etc..
  18. That board has an aesthetically pleasing look. Nicely laid out. How do you find the MXR compressor? I'm thinking about getting a dedicated one (I'm not finding the ones on multi-pedal usable).
  19. There's such examples posted on this GP-5 FB group, inc mine. It's good to have both 5V USB and 9V nozzle power options on the GP-5 https://www.facebook.com/groups/2661648260701246/?ref=share

    Valeton GP-5

Had my first real test with the GP-5 over the weekend, back to back gigs with a solid, well organised soul band (GP-5 on my board at the end). I used just one effect all night, the "finger bass" (that had felt right for this band in my testing) and got compliments from the guys on my tone (more than for my playing 😂) so happy days with the GP-5 so far.... VID20250824205002.mp4 It's so convenient and versatile, today I popped it off the board with 5V, bass and headphones wired in for some song learning...Insert existing attachment
  21. Depped for a soul band at the weekend and got complimented on the tone (stock "finger bass" setting on the GP-5 to an Ampeg BA-210v2 and PRE from the Giga Set into the digital IEM band mixer) and a nice discussion of the board with the guitarist. A totally unnecessary diagram, because it was fun to do (used Google Drawings) 🙃
  22. A double-decker pedalboard! Version 2. My inexpensive IEM system packed up so got a refund and swapped out for a better one**. V1 was heading in that direction, but now I've got to fit a 1/2 rack-sized IEM system, it's increased the doubleheightedness(😬) to near maximal levels. Functional * wireless bass receiver (2.4GHz) * always-on tuner * multi-pedal * DI box * IEM transmitter (863-5 MHz) * battery (5V, 9V, 12V) * IEM headphone mixer amp Gear Same as my previous post with the "t.bone IEM 75" (replacing the M-Wave WP-12). This is the entry level option in their range, around 10 years old with great reviews on Thomann, perfect for the pub gigs I do. Was £60 + postage on Reverb in nearly new condition. I'd really like a Mi-Pro 58 but that's outside my current budget.
  23. I hope my bandmate's WP-12 lasts years. I'm not getting another one though. I've just bought a t.bone IEM 75 for £65 used and will get that onto my pedalboard.
  24. Unusually for AliExpress they wanted the unit returned, but made an instant refund as a credit (my choice) as soon as I did today. They have me a QR code for Royal Mail and noticed when they printed the label that it is going to an address in Hounslow - so looks like they may have some kind of generic returns department in the UK.
