1. The new improved Fender / Ashbory bass was launched at The Nashville Summer NAMM in July 1999 and brought back what was referred to as "the epitome of originality: the most innovative bass guitar ever created" in Guild's® 1987 literature.
The 18-inch fretless scale and super lightweight body make it easy to create the growl of an upright or the punch of a standard electric bass. The patented Ashworth transducer and the silicone rubber strings are what make the Ashbory so unique, but the sound for live and recording applications is what makes it a necessity for any recording studio and a treat for any live performance.

Ashbory: the Official Story (and History):-

  2. Here's some photos and a comprehensive outline from AI:-

Focus SA: 600W of power in a compact, single-channel satellite amp.
    · Same 600W dual-voltage power amp as Focus integrated amps
    · Even smaller size and lower weight (3.5 lbs)
    · Pair with any high-quality preamp or mixer — or add a second power amp section to your Focus or Clarus for greater volume and headroom.
    · Adds stereo capability when paired with Clarus 2R or Focus 2R
    · Combo jack accepts ¼-inch or XLR inputs
    · Input level control
    · Two parallel twist-lock output jacks
    · Comes with padded case, 6 foot power cord

    Design Goals
"Power without corruption". This simple phrase aptly describes the Focus SA high-powered amp heads which deliver an astounding 600 watts (into 4 ohms) of power from a tiny 3.5-lb. package, without compromising the characteristically open, natural Acoustic Image sound. Focus amps are designed to meet the needs of players who require extra high volume or exceptional headroom in a highly portable package, and designed to accurately reproduce the sound of instruments without compromise.
Unlike other solid state amps, Focus delivers a distinctly warm, tube-like sound which is flat across the spectrum and not voiced to favour any particular frequency. So if you use a high quality speaker, what you hear is just the sound of your instrument.
The Focus SA can be paired with any high quality mixer or preamp — or connected as a satellite amp to an AI Focus or Clarus (via the send output or direct out) to add even greater volume and headroom. Comes with a padded bag and speaker cable with twist-lock terminations
    Technical Specs System Focus SA
    Frequency Response 20 Hz - 20 kHz, ± 0.5 dB
Distortion <0.5% full output, <0.1% typical
Hum and Noise -85 dB or better
    AC Power 115V/60Hz, 230/50Hz, switchable
    Size10 X 6.5 X 3.1 inches
    Weight 3.5 pounds
    Power Amp: Class D (PWM)
    Switching Frequency 200 kHz
    Output Power >300 Watts (8ohm)>600 Watts (4ohm)>800 Watts (2ohm)
    Minimum Load 2 ohms
    InputXLR–1/4" combo jack, 5k impedance
Sensitivity250 mV rms for full output (“instrument level”)
Output ConnectorsNeutrik Speakon type (pole 1)
Included Accessories: Gig bag with shoulder strap (works fine, but rather worn & some tears to the corners) - can carry the amp + associated leads etc.

    £ SOLD !!!

  3. Seymour Duncan SJB-2n + 2b 'Hot' for Jazz bass: new, unused & boxed !!
The usual 'bought for a project and never used'...

    According to Seymour Duncan website:-
"...This pickup is similar in design to the Vintage, but kicks up the output with more aggressive coil windings. Compared to the Vintage, there's a heavier mid-range emphasis that makes this pickup well suited to rock tones. Includes logo cover.
    complete setup
Calibrated neck and bridge set. Neck pickup is slightly narrower. Neck is RW/RP for hum canceling when both pickups are used together..."

    £ SOLD !!

  4. Thanks Ped (again) - and BRx / Waldo - the BQ4 is quite special (particularly in the hands of Brian Bromberg for/with whom it was developed). You could be right about the origin of the neck .. but it also has the polymer (?) finish, similar to that on the Pedulla MVP 'Buzz' basses; so it really 'sings'. There's no truss rod but it does have the micro-tilt. It works great as a 'standard' fretless with plenty of the desired 'mwwahhh' but also has the Piezo pickup which can be used independently or mixed with the Mag-p/ups. Plus the panning effect (rear adjustable, as are the piezos) which you can hear on BB's early/solo albums. When I get the photos up you'll see it has a stereo/mono output and a series of 8 holes in the rear cover.I don't think there are many of the white/fretless models about (!).

  5. Another humbling 'Thanks Guys' re. + comments from Steve (Birdy), Keir (Dub J) and John (W'kHunt): I should add that with all these guys (and, previously Mick/macko68 & Chris/Ped) - plus others on the Forum - that it takes-two-to-tango in respect of all the deals & communication mentioned (!!).

  6. Naturally Ped (Chris) !!... and, again, thanks for the + comments.

OK - I'm struggling to get some photos posted, which I appreciate doesn't help at all: so here (intially - I'll post individual instruments asap) are those which are not yet posted in Basses4Sale or BassPorn .. and in the order they appear on the list:-

  7.
As of todays date, I make that 23 days then Dave.

    Is that a record? :)
I'm not sure C K .. but I'm sure somebody can claim to beat it...
Mind you, I'd had the bass a while before I added it to the Porn section - took me ages really to post anything there (despite encouragement). Once I'd listed the Marleaux's, thought the Modulus was definitely of the Porn genre...

  8.
Singapore. Cool. I'd quite like to end up there, myself, one day. The education's cheap and the English is good, as is my understanding.
Aha - I think I sussed it (?)

Paul, I would highly recommend it: education is both cheap and very good (both local and internationalschools/colleges + Singapore University). English is the first language (of both education and Govt. plus the major newspapers and TV) - although you'll find that most Singaporeans tend to speak a second or third language (Mandarin plus other Chinese dialects, Bahasa Malay, Tamil / other Indian dialects). Climate takes some getting used to: it's in the mid 30's virtually all year . which seems nice; but the relative humidity is constanly in the 90's - that's the 'killer'.

  9. .. how do you use "+Quote"....?... never tried it before and have just failed completely !

Anyway, it's definitely a thirsty climate out there! .. in addition to what I think you meant (!).

Okay .. have added some prices.

I've reduced the Skjold Custom 4 by £200 and will amend the previous listing.
The Tune bass had truss rod issues when I bought it: the truss rod has been replaced but it's not 100% so is best as a beginner / spare instrument. Shame, as it's otherwise nice (and unusual).
The Marleaux Signature(s) are, obviously, very expensive (!). But the current price is €3800 per bass (currently £3k with the strong €uro): that's without a case; both mine have nice, lightweight hardcases.

The prices are all inclusive of Courier delivery (next-day)

Realise that I must get some photos and details up - will do that asap.

  10. Mick - thanks for the positive (and totally accurate, of course) comments.

Parker Muse: well, I haven't actually sold anything as yet and I'm not going to Thailand. The ££ will be spent wisely, don't worry: I'm sure that my Singaporean wife and our three kids will play their part.

  11. Well, finally seems likely that our longed-for / long-term move back to Asia (ultimately Singapore) is on - either end of summer (?.. if that ever arrives) or end of the year.
Not keen to sea-freight stuff (having experienced this before) but will probably air-freight one or two basses once we're out there: there's a couple of instruments (well, a 'pair') I'd really like to keep but it'll probably be decided by what sells or is left.
I'll start to post individual stuff shortly and a couple are already here in Classifieds or BassPorn, then update (initally with prices) and links etc.
But if there's anything that's of real interest, drop me a PM or email.

  12. Mick (macko68),

Not sure why you felt the need to include that outrageous comment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I've visited your place (about 8 miles from me) 3 times since 2003: each time at your request as you were thinking of buying a new bass and were interested to know what I might have, either to buy or to see.

On each occasion I would have been able to bring about 4 basses as I wouldn't have got any more into the car. So that means each was worth about £6500. ...

I recall you buying a Marleaux Straight 4 and later a Lakland 4 (each at around the £700 mark) - and me getting a Tokai Jazz bass from you.

I did add a relevant (hopefully) comment to this discussion earlier as I have had experience of ebay removing an auction for stating that an item was advertised elsewhere.

  13. .. bit confused here ?... who "got beat!": the auction appears to have 3+ days to run with 0-bids as yet...

Anyway: with regard to the ebay/listed elsewhere thing, I had an auction removed for stating that so either ebay spotted the wording or were alerted to it by another ebayer who didn't like it (which is more likely, and maybe the only way they might ever see it).
So they do use it as a 'legitimate' reason for ending/closing a listing.
In light of that, I just don't use it anymore - but obviously, as John says, one is able to remove any auction/listing with 12+ hours to run, so it might occasionally work against ebayers if an instrument (or anything ebayed) in which they're interested is listed or advertised elsewhere but the seller is unable to state so; particularly if there's an attractive BIN and/or start price but they're playing the common wait-and-see or approach or just giving it some thought and consideration.

  14.
Nice looking bass! Any ideas about when it might be in the classifieds then Dave? :)

I was gonna say the same. I cant imagine how stunning that would look in the flesh cos i've never seen a photo do quilt justice.
... whadya mean ?!!..... (LOL) - I can catagorically state that this bass is NOT for sale .. until I check up on another post-Frankfurt bass (with one already in-the-pipeline).
Good to know that it's not such a unique/one-off FLEA (.. although maybe that would be best?...) and that it's similar to (but significantly different from) a 'smart' special. I feel that the JJ + active/3-EQ offers a lot more to the bass - but this is, of course/as usual - a stricly personal view. The simple Fender 'ish + slot-in bridge works well and the neck (very J-like / 1.5" nut) does have truss-rod adjustment. Weight is reasonable @ 9.2 lbs.

  15. OK, this is a little different to the conventional FLEA (with the single soapbar) - but it does have a very nice top and IS a Flea body (.. and neck, I think). It has an additional fret and is sort of cloned with the Modulus VJ series of basses. Twin Bartolini J's and with Vol., Pan, and 3EQ. Very nice (?).:-

  16. Thanks for the positive comments guys!

Lovely bass .. but not really getting much use cf. my Marleaux Sig-4, so now available for sale:-
