I have DR Beauties on my Sandberg VM4 and MarloweDK and love them. Decided to fit on my P bass but i get crackling especially noticeable with tone full up. Its like an earth crackle and if i rest my hand on the bridge it stops. I'm a fingerstyle player so that's a problem for me. The bass is properly earthed. I'm sure i had same problem when i tried Elixirs on my Jazz bass and just went back to standard strings. Was wondering if going wireless would stop it getting to the amp ? Has anyone else experienced this problem with coated strings. ? Any thoughts on how to get around this problem. Dave

Its an odd thing but i like my Jazz basses to have that top end Ric sound so why i've never bought another Ric surprises me altho the price of a new one is kinda off-putting but a decent 2nd hand one can be had for under £2k. I dont recall any issues with the actual bass dimensions or weight to be honest. Dave

I bought a Ric in 80's and couldn't master the tone finding it very limiting. Sold it within few mths for a Jazz bass. I still have Gas for another and the new ones have that push pull knob that for me offers a more modern tone that I prefer. None about to rest tho but I do fancy another one.

Mate had a white Epi T'bird with neck thru that looked gorgeous and he said it wasn't too bad for neck dive. Dave

Would maybe knock enough sense in him to keep him well away from a bass headstock. Dave

That's always handy to know the Blackstar amps are ok. Like the look of a T bird but having had an Epi version the neck dive was a bit ridiculous even when i moved the strap pins. Are the Gibson ones better. They do have a distinct sound, deep and solid. Have to say you've put me in GAS for one of those Red Rics again. At some point i'll try one of the new ones and maybe go for it. I like the tone of a Ric as its basically what i like in a bass tone. I love my Jazz basses but i adjust my eq to get as close to a standard Ric tone so i'm wondering why i dont just buy a Ric 👍 Dave

Eventful weekend plus you now have a bodyguard for when touring. You definitely have a cracking image @Cat Burrito the hat does make you stand out from the crowd based on pics you've posted. Keep it up sir. So how did the Blackstar amp and T'bird do. I've seen a few of the Blackstar bass amps as venue backline amps now and wondered how they stand up at a gig. Dave Dave

Our gig at a private party for friends had to be cancelled when 2 of the band got covid. Party went ahead and it was a good night altho the karaoke singers need to work on their vocals. I was driving so just stayed for 3 hrs and headed home again. Dave

I've had them on my Marlowe DK and VM4 for a while now at least 3 mths and they still sound amazing. The brightness has dropped a little but you end up with the hi mids coming thru far better. I added a set to my P bass 2 weeks ago but yet to try that out at a gig. Was gonna be tonight at a private party with punk covers band but 2 of them have the dreaded covid so the band got cancelled. Still going to the party for a few hrs tho but i'll be driving. Dave

Just the one but it shuts on Sundays and Wed afternoons. Limited stock tho.

I had a white Ric back in 80's but cant remember how it felt as i couldn't really take to it back then. More about the tone than feel of the bass. I didn,t know they had done away with the twin truss rods. I quite like a slim neck. Dave

Are the newer necks better than the old ones. ? Dave

Had the Lo Tension flats on my VM4 for about a year and really liked them but they didn't really suit the music i was playing. Dave

Yep that is my dream Ric colour altho i'd go for a fretted one. Dave

Not just as bad as that altho we had one venue the first time i played it with the band. The owner had gone home and the staff asked us how much we get paid. Unfortunately the band are regulars there and always get paid same amount and we are an honest bunch.

Dumpy's used to play our local venue many years ago. I could see what you mean. LOL

Probably good advice. I'll not bother then. Those guys were seriously lucky you talked me out of that. Our singer Lynn knows them all and was there from the Fri - Sun and said some already had the virus symptoms on the Fri night. We played it last year on the Fri night and she caught the virus then too but rest of us were fine. Dave

Update that Lynn our other singer now has covid. That's the full band now. Dave

I prefer 3:1 compression sometimes a little less but Threshold same as yours and Gain 12 o'clock too. Dave
