Thanks @thebrig that's the sort of direct experience I was looking for. I've passed it on to my brother.

If it stopped him playing guitar and mountain biking, even for a few years, he would be heartbroken.

I'm glad you are finally getting somewhere.

Thanks, I am a lot happier now with my playing, although any musos watching would probably think I have terrible technique.

It didn't stop me playing completely, but it was a struggle until recently, my bandmates were very understanding and if a certain song was too much for me, then they were happy to drop it.

It could be different for your brother, and it depends on what type of procedure the specialist suggests, I might have been one of the unlucky ones.

If he ever wanted to know more about my experience, just drop me a PM.

  2. I have arthritis in both thumbs and had a trapeziectomy which is an operation to remove the trapezium (small piece of bone) in my right thumb in 2007, and I was supposed to have had the left one removed at a later date.

I had an plastic bone inserted in the space, six month's later, I had to have it removed because of the pain it was causing and I could hardly move my thumb at all.

When the artificial bone was removed the surgeon used one of the three tendons in my wrist that runs down to the thumb, it was rolled up and inserted in the space, I was in less pain but my movement was still restricted which meant placing my thumb on the pickup or strings was not only painful, but very clumsy and restrictive.

Over the years I have had to rest my palm on the bass and done my best, but over the last 12 months or so, I am getting more and more movement and can now use the pickup or strings to anchor my thumb.

Needless to say, I opted out of having the other thumb done and have since been told by other surgeons that it is a procedure that often fails.

I would never advise anyone to have, or not have, a trapeziectomy because its down to the individual to choose, but I was told that I would have full movement within twelve months, but its been fourteen years to get back to around 75% movement.

I've attached a photo of me and my better half five days after the second op.

@thebrig, with the lovely stuff you have up for sale, I’m curious what your two keepers are.

They are both P's with Jazz necks which are actually bitza's, I built them a few year's ago and I get a lot of satisfaction playing them.

I only gig once a month at most, so I can't really justify having two beautiful basses just to play in pubs. 🙂

  4. Fender Limited Edition American Standard PJ Bass with Jazz Width Nut (One of The Magnificent Seven)

    NOW SOLD!!!

This the second bass I have up for sale because I have now decided to completely trim my basses down to just two, main bass, and back-up bass, so this lovely bass which I purchased on this marketplace during lock-down, has to go as well.

It is part of "The Magnificent Seven" that Fender introduced in 2016, and this is one of just 500 worldwide and is in absolutely mint condition, and comes with the original Fender hardcase.

It has a Maple neck with a Rosewood fretboard and has a 38mm Jazz width nut.

It truly sounds and plays amazing.

I have included a YouTube clip that I recorded directly through my interface into Reaper, there are no effects added, and there was NO bass on the original backing track, so you are actually hearing the bass that is up for sale.

You are welcome to come and try it out at my home in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

More info can be found here:

Lovely looking thing. Something about the natural wood and tort plate that screams class. Or maybe it’s the black cap.

That reminds me, I should have stated in the ad that the original pickguard is black (which will be included in the sale), I had this tort pickguard custom made using the original one as a template

  6. Lakland USA Bob Glaub Custom PJ Bass

After going on a spending spree during lock-down, I have now decided to completely trim my basses down to just two, main bass, and back-up bass, so this stunning example which I purchased on this marketplace during lock-down, has to go.

It is in absolutely mint condition and comes with the original Lakland hardcase.

It has a quarter-sawn Maple neck with a Rosewood fretboard, birds-eye maple position markers, and It has a 38mm Jazz width nut.

It truly sounds, and plays amazing, I've included a YouTube video of me attempting to play Smooth Operator with my arthritic fingers on the bass, so please go easy on me, lol.

It's going straight through my interface into Reaper with no effects added.

The bass on the original audio has NO bass, so you are actually hearing the Lakland bass.

You are welcome to come and try it out at my home in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

Edit: It originally came with a black scratchplate which I still have and will be included in the sale, I had the tort scratchplate made using the original one as a template.

    Weight: 8lb 6oz.

I so wanted to play this. I asked the band to learn it and my guitarist mate who is massively passive aggressive didn't learn it as he had leaned some other song. Anyway one night he started playing the riff. Everyone recognised it and cheered. Still he never learned it fully. I was annoyed.

I loved the song and it always went down well when we played it live

  8. Strangely, I'm more comfortable playing songs like My Sharona and Billie Jean but I used to cr*p myself when we did AC/DC's Live Wire.

I had to play the same note intro for what seemed like an age, I was always worried that I would get the tempo wrong or miss a note which stand out like a sore thumb, but once the drums and second guitar came in , no problem. 😉

Do amputees feel excluded when they hear

And when the rain comes down
Would you choose to walk or stay
    Would you choose to walk
    Would you choose to stay

I could be wrong, but surely these lyrics are only asking, Would you choose to walk or stay? I really don't see the connection with amputees.

But, saying, I would rather go blind! is a statement that they would choose to go blind, which to my mind is a terrible thing to say.

  10. I am definitely the least talented member in my band, the other members have been playing since they were kids totalling around 150 years between them, they are all very good musicians with plenty of experience, and when they talk in musical terms, I struggle to know what they are on about sometimes because I am self-taught and only starting playing about ten years ago, but when it comes to rehearsals, they turn to me to lead them through any new songs because I know the arrangements and structures because I put the work in, whereas, they don't.

Yes, they are much better musicians than me, but I think that I am probably a better team player, and it sounds like you are too!

  11. Thanks for the replies guys.

I've had the Genz Benz Shuttles 9.2 head for around five years and always used it with two Genz Benz Shuttle 2x10 cabs, and to be honest, it sounded great, but then I thought if the Barefaced Super Twin can give me the same, or more in just one cab, then that would be a better option.

I've only used the Genz Benz/Barefaced setup in rehearsal so far, but I think this combination sounds even better, so I'm one happy bunny! 🙂

If your head is capable of outputting 900w into a 4 ohm load (Which the barefaced cab is) then yes you will be getting the 900w pumping into it - Don't think it's going to sound almost twice as loud though ☺️

Is the head rated at 900w peak into 4 ohm?

Thanks for the reply, according to the specs, yes.

    500W/8ohms, 900W/4ohms

  13. I use a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 head with a  Barefaced Super Twin G3, I think it sounds awesome but I was wondering, I just use one cable to connect the head to the cab, does this give me the full potential of the head and cab?

The head is rated 500W/8ohms, 900W/4ohms, and the Super Twin is 4 ohm nominal impedance.

I don't fully understand how it all works and would appreciate some advice from you more knowledgible folk out there.

    Cheers

Is it just me or is now a bad time to sell? Certainly towards the lower end of the market <£500 prices seem to be very low. £150 for a neck thru Peavey Zephyr and £120 for a modern Ibanez SR300 seems ridiculous

You are probably right but I am having a new window installed in my "music" room that needs a bit more light, and I have three basses hanging on the wall where the new window will be.

Like many of us, I have far more gear than I actually need or use so I have decided to move stuff on and keep everything to a minimum.

Sounds drastic I know, but in reality, I know that I only need two basses, main bass and backup bass, and I have five at the moment.

I’m not under any pressure from the boss, and she expressed genuine sadness when I said I'm going to sell a few.
