I also really enjoyed Fever Ray

One of the highlights for me too.  I find myself preferring watching bands I don't know, over the ones I do.  Obviously it's a mixed bag but this year featured some really cool stuff.

Am I missing something (I know I am btw) but a click track is barely acceptable IMHO for a live show

Click tracks are very common on the touring circuit and very necessary as very often lighting, visuals and even guitar patch changes are synced to automatically change at an exact point in a song/live show.

Backing tracks however are a bit of a bone of contention. I wonder why artists don't hire an extra session cat or two to cover parts, particularly at something like Glasto.

  3. Just caught their Radio 1 Big Weekend set (the full thing is on Youtube) and was very impressed, having never seen/heard them before.  Lovely polished pop music with a bit of an interesting dynamic.

  4. There is quite simply no way the fingerboard wood on a fretted bass could possibly make a difference to tone IMO.

The strings never touch the fingerboard wood along the entire speaking length of the string i.e. from nut (or fret) to bridge.

Metal strings touch metal frets and vibrate in the pickups' magnetic field, and that's it.

I can see how fretless boards possibly might affect tone or sustain, but certainly not on fretted instruments.

  5. Any other users? I was backstage at Metallica this past weekend and played one of Rob's basses through a Fractal AX8 - the tone was unbelievable! Making me rethink my setup. I'd love to try an FM9.

I guess I was hoping for a bit more from folks who are picking up new venues…especially in rural areas like ours. The small town pubs in Cambridgeshire seem to barely be hiring any bands, and I’d like to find ways of getting the attention of those who are. If you have recently tweaked your promotional effoerts to good effect, I would love to know how you did it.

I like the blokes I have played with, but we have not had a gig since November.

Can you organise and promote your own gig at one of these rural venues?  Might be the start of a regular gig and will help increase your profile locally.
