1.
Hi Mate,

I have used a Hartke 3500 for the last 3 years paired with a Hartke 410XL cab, and it has given me superb results so far - mine has the 12ax7m preamp valve installed and it gives me a nice warm sound, with the treble rolled back to about 3 and the low end up on about 6 or 7.

Ive always had good comments on my sound when playing live with the rig, our very own Syed (The Funk) has first hand experience having heard it recently at the Clapham Grand in london. I have run several basses through this rig, a Warwick Streamer LX5, Streamer Stage One, Streamer Standard, Yamaha BBG5a, Ibanez Gary Willis Fretless, Fender Jazz bass and my Customer P Bass - all of which have given me a fantastic sound with a little bit of tweaking.

£300 is way too much for the 3000 head, as it goes i would be willing to let my 3500 go for £200 + shipping costs, as I am finding the Bass POD XT has every sound I could possibly ever want to use. Im going to run that into an Aphex Aural exciter and then into a power amp, and hopefully use a tech nd410 cab for my next rig.

Drop me a PM if you are interested mate.

Thanks for that, i'll have a think about that, does seem a good price. warm is not a word i would describe the HA3000 i was using, although i had only had about fifteen to play around with it.
    thanks again.
2. I played my first gig friday night with my new band, the guitarist gets the gigs. he got one in a local pub. where, and he told me this on several occiasons, that is amp feeds back, i thought its just a coincedence but sure enough half way through the first set i could hear these horrible sounds coming from his direction. its interesting what you said niceguyhomer about all the band going through one socket, i dont think we where. he was plugged in one side of the room and i was in another socket, althought the double socket i was plugged into only one side worked. maybe there's a bad earth somewhere. i'm glad to say i only had a few finger fumblings the whole night, :) it was the singer who made all the c*ck ups.

  3. Thanks for the replies. the hartke amp is new but i know the guy i'm supposed to be buying it off is a little on the dear side. thanks Vasquez Rich that HA3500 could be a better bet, i'll print it out and show it to him.

  4. Played my first gig with a new band last night, a guy down the road has his own business making and selling guitar stuff, he had a hartke HA3000 300watt amp and his own make cabinet, two 15inch celestions. so i managed to borrow it for the night with a view to buying. coupled with my Fender jazz fitted with 84 wound wizard pickups i found it, well, very bright. in fact i could not get the sound i wanted, i did'nt have a lot of time to play around with it but when i got a decent sounding E string the D and A strings still sounded very bright, and the clipping light kept coming on. i found out after the speakers were only 150watt each so thats probably why, so i wont be buying the cab, anyone have any experiece of the Hartke amp? He wants £300 for it.

  5. The first time around nearly every gig. it was part of the game. we played half the country and i had a girl in every port so to speak. well almost. great fun. got back from a gig in birminham once still in bed at three pm, me mum comes up the stairs and wakes me up and says there's a couple of girls from mid wales at the door they said you gave them your address, ah fame! :)

  6. Gibson are doing a guitar every week, there are some basses including this Thunderbird with Zebra wood wings, there's also a nice SG supreme in a flame maple wood top.

  7.
Here's what looks like a bolt-neck, mono output Matsumoku (with wavy Grover copies & toaster), looks in very nice nick as far as one can tell, and is listed in such a way as to be completely missed by anyone searching specifically for Rick copies:

    Item no. 160145049318

Don't know what the reserve is but I've asked. Apparently the guy has a Rick TRC he'll include with it at extra cost!
*Update* Reserve is a very fair £100! Worth a punt if anyone's interested. :)

In his answer to the bolt on question he says he not up on things like that, but his description of the bass is pretty good including truss rod info, just thought it was strange.

  8. In the covers band i'm in we do the Dandy warhols Bohemian lke you its a easy song to do and found i can strum the notes although i'm still hitting an odd string which i'm not supposed to be hitting, this has a more visual effect than anything else but i enjoy doing it, anyone else use this technique and got any tips. ta.

  9. As an aside, i like this bit :)
The original sunburst finish was stripped in 1976, he was working in a band with a lead guitarist who had a black guitar, this guitarist insisted that the other guitar player and bass player should have white guitars to contrast against his, hence the sunburst coming off and the white going on...

  10. I love looking at the pro's collection of basses, this one belongs to Mike Watt of Iggy pop fame.
    I like the thelecaster. http://hootpage.com/hoot_gallery-thudstaffs.html

  11.
I've been fortunate to play his bass myself.

For the shot I was a bit naughty and carefully supported the bass by the massive 110-50 flatwounds he had on it, at the bridge and against my body. But the bass was light and Herbie didn't seem to mind :) Funny thing was that when I asked Herbie whether it really was a pre-production prototype, he wasn't so sure! It was a bit funky though - years of grime had built up around the pole pieces and pots.
Did you ask him what that switch was for, or were already clued up on that.

  12. We had a keyboard player who had a hammond organ complete with bass pedals. he used to be backing for a singer. trouble was he couldn't keep his feet off the pedals, i'd be playing and there would be this sound and i'd be thinking i'm not playing those notes! it would be the k/b player on the pedals doing it without thinking, in the end we had to tie his legs to his stool to stop him, :) not very health and safety looking back on it.

  13. Proof that you have never seen it all :)

  14. This looks cool but a little low for me, i think Dee Dee Ramone is on the small side. either he's split his jeans before or he's had them made for doing the splits :)

  15. I saw a picture of Flea on the cover of a bass mag a while back and he had what appeared to be a bolt and a large washer holding is strap on and i remember thinking that's not going to come off without a spanner, :)

  16. In the late sixties early seventies i was into prog rock but there was always the odd song with a nice little bass line that used to catch my attention, one was Disco inferno by... bugger cant remember, but i still like to warm up with it now.

  17.
Should do. Long scale normally means 34 inches - any thing else is short scale and longer is extra-long. Fender Jazz are all 34" as it was Leo Fender who set the standard.
thats what i thought, but it looks as if they do need cutting. thanks bass_ferret.
