1. I have seen musicians on the bandstand reading the dots/chords using today's 'Technoligy'---no sheet music or chord books. What equipment do the use? (--ie:--iPad?) What programme (App?) would they use to write in their own programme? Hope the above question is clear. Time to eliminate my many chord books!
2. Thanks again for your good knowledge gentleman--I will go for the Celestion eight 15 and give that a try. gypsyjazzer.
3. Thanks guys for the replies. My knowledge of speakers is zilch--so hence question. I have no documentation with the amp. (Peavey 'Solo' Battery/Mains amp--rated at 15W mains and 10W battery) No impedance marked on the speaker--no wattage marked. Just a few no's and 'Made in China'. Yes, question has been asked before. I have been told that I needed a 4ohm rated speaker, but posted again for a 'second opinion'. I was thinking of getting Celestion Eight 15 speaker--good choice? The existing speaker has been tested on another amp--same problem--distortion.
4. I want to replace a speaker in a small guitar amp--max. output is 15W. the speaker size is 8" Dia. Is it OK to go for a speaker rated at 8 ohm?
5. Hi geoffbassist Many thanks for your reply--most helpful.
6. Has any body tried any of the Accusound mic. sound systems on their DB? Results?
7. Many thanks for your advice everybody. Much appreciated.

9. Regarding my strings wants in the above post--I should have mentioned that the Velvet Garbo set required would be the regular set.
10. I want to try to try either a set of Velvet Garbo or Spirocore Weichs. As anybody a set they did not like & wish to dispose of? PM me with details. Many thanks.
11. Can anybody recommend a CD player that will slow down the music but keep the pitch of the music being played--for transcription purposes?
12. Many thanks guys for all your useful info.
13. I have a Peavy 'Solo' mains/battery guitar amp (Not for putting my D/B through I might add!!!)---max.15W output---in need of a new quality 8inch 4ohm speaker. Does anyone know where I can obtain one? Question: Not knowing a thing about speakers what wattage of speaker can I go up to? Question: Do the terms: 'Driver' / 'Sub-Woofer' come into this? Do I avoid these speakers? Are those speakers for cars? Hi-Fi?
14. Thanks 'thisnameistaken' for your reply. Has your laminated bass a spruce top?--or is it the back & sides that are laminated? I have a fair knowledge of guitars and I do know that a guitar with a solid spuce top but laminated back & sides makes a guitar a lot louder than a guitar with solid wood sides. Solid wood tends to absorb some of the sound. A good setup on any stringed instrument is very important.
15. Thanks for the very useful information 'TheRev'--much appreciated.
16. Would there be a difference in volume / tone of a Bass top made from laminated spruce & solid spruce? Your knowledge welcome.
17. Part exchange my D/B (believed to be of German origin from circa 1880) for Eminance EUB with cash difference. Details of D/B: I have owned the D/B for approx. 20 years, bought from a classical bassist. Repairs had been done to the bass before I purchased, no trouble since purchasing. During my ownership it has had a new ebony F/B--new quality single tuners fitted--and a top quality bridge fitted. It is a flat back, two piece back of maple. The two piece table of spruce has a fine grain opening to the flanks. Set up with steel strings for jazz--a good solid bass with a good solid sound. Will sell for £6000 or part exchange for an Eminance EUB. email for photo's to: [email protected] (North Derbyshire area.)
18. Many thanks everybody for your very useful info. A 'lot' of EUB's to look at. I have had the Palatino now for a no. of years--as an alternative to D/B for some gigs. Many modifications along the way---pick-ups / made different body supports / converted a drum stand to play& hold---never happy!
19. I have a 'Palatino'--thinking of upgrading. Time to move on. A few questions: a) Are the semi-acoustic's nearer the D/B sound? The 'Palatino' is awkward to hold---poor design. I have converted a drum stand to fix the 'Palatino on`--works OK--but---the stand does tend to move. Those of you with EUB's on stands do you have the same problem? Also with the 'Palatino' on the stand it does not feel as good as having body contact with the bass, even with the poor design. c) In your opinion what are the best EUB's out there--for sound & holding. Look forward to your knowledgeable advise. Thanks.

23. Thank you for your replies. Most helpful.
24. How accurate are digital caliper readings? When reading a string gauge I can get various readings--somtimes reading in the same place---sometimes along different parts of the string. (I have changed the battery in the caliper.) How accurate is string making? Is there a difference in quality of buying a cheap digital caliper to buying a more expensive one?
