  5. As explained elsewhere, my Ashdown gear is being sold to make space (and cash!) for a new MarkBass set-up, so I'm selling the 2x10 Ashdown cab and (elsewhere on the forum) the EVO II 500 head. This cab has been subjected to a bit of DIY 'prettification' with ample use of new black vinyl and plenty of staple gun action over the oritginal cover! However, it all looks fine to the normal human (as you can hopefully see from the photos) and, more importantly, sounds like an absolute monster. I gigged with just this 2x10 and the Ashdown head and can heartily recommend the coupling. Anyway, I'd reduced the price to compensate for the DIY appearance, not that it ever made any odds to me when using it!   6. Seriously brilliant head that has been replaced with a MarkBass combo, so has to be sold (them's the rules in my wife's house when you blow £900 on a new toy!) Three straightforward rotary tone controls provide 20dB of cut and boost at 60Hz, 660Hz and 5kHz, and are supplemented by two pairs of additional sliders giving 15dB cut and boost at 180Hz, 340Hz, 1.3kHz and 2.6kHz. Output muting cuts the signal from the DI output but leaves the tuner output 'live', allowing the player to tune up in silence. A new upgraded power section has faster transient attack, more headroom and even less noise.
  7. Lovely combo sadly making way for a MarkBass that has that corner of the room reserved! Superb for recording and gigging/rehearsing; packs some serious wallop. Some lovely built in amp models and handy effects to save lugging round pedals just to have one song with flange and one with distortion!   8. Hi - I recently started using the S Monitor and am v happy with it. I actually just have my mic XLR feed going in and thru to the mixing desk - giving me sterio monitor of JUST my vocals, and then also putting the bass in and through via the sterio input. This only gives me the bass monitor in the left ear, and the volume has to be set to 9 to hear (whereas the mic volume is 1) but to be honest this is good enough to give me a nice clear vocals mix with a tickle of bass. I'm sure there are far more clever ways of diong this, but for a plonker like me it still does exactly what I bought it for so happy days. Good luck
  9. Hi - prepare yourselves for a potentially stupid question - I'm not very (i.e. at all) techy... The story: I have an Ibanez Ergodyne EDB550 that I love to play - it just feels nice. I have a MusicMan Stingray which just makes THE best noise when plugged into my Ashdown set up. However, I don't personally get as much enjoyment out of playing it as I do from the Ibanez. So... Is there something I can do from a 'changing pickups' point of view that might give my Ibanez the kind of clout the Stingray has? Thanks in advance for any comments or education you're happy to send my way! Matt
  10. Hiya I'm bass/vocals in a few bands, but more and more getting sick of either having no monitors, or sticking things in my ears to try and hear what the f*** i'm actually wailing out. Anyone out there used in-ear monitors? Any thoughts / advice / recommendations as I have no experience in this area. As always, thanks in advance for any info! Matt

I just wanted to pop up on this thread to recommend ANYONE interested in the 4x10" grab is VERY quickly - it's lush. It's only that it was more than i needed that I didn't snaffle it up, so please make the best of this great item Thanks again Thurbs - you're a gent. You do a mean cup of tea too! Cheers!   12. Dear all i just wanted to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who joined in this conversation (and PMed me at various times) - it was a real education for me, and incredibly useful. You'll be glad to hear that I went up to Thurbs place on Sunday and bought the 1x15" Ashdown cab and the 500w head from him. I REALLY was tempted by the 4x10" which had an incredible sound (and anyone thinking about purchasing such a beaut would do well to talk to him pronto) but ultimately I couldn't justify the GAS (see, I'm learning) as it was more than I needed and heavy enough to defeat the object of my task. I've since picked up a bargain on ebay - a 2x10 Ashdown for £70 which looks like it's been dropped off a cliff but I'm assured works a treat and just needs some cosmetic repair. I collect that tomorrow and then have a versative little rig that should eat up any of the gigs I had to roll out the Trace GP12 for. Anyway, I hate people that just use a forum to get what they want and never bother to come back, so... once again, many thanks to you all. Oh, and thanks to Thurbs - he makes a cracking cup of tea. Cheers[/quote] I think I did say this earlier (I might be wrong!) but i wanted to keep it under £500 for a 3-piece and occasional 4-piece playing big old Essex pubs and clubs. The 150 Line 6 is just about ok - but everything is on 10 and it's not how I like to run, while the GP12SMX is just way too powerful. Lugging it around it like carrying two humans and i have it on 2 volume so know i need something in between that I can carry around more easily and isn't simply over the top. The guitarist has a bastard-loud Peavey amp that just drowns everything, so i need to push through. Hope that helps. Matt

My old SWR head is rated a measly 160w into 8ohms but works wonderfully in many smaller situations. A lot of the results you hear are a combination of factors...output power, speaker sensitivity..cab design but also the room you play in. Its a balance between the type of sound you want...the power you'll need (and a bit spare for those gigs) and what you can/are happy to carry around and load in/out. Don't forget the DI option...it can let you think of your amp as a musical instrument, that is then amplified by the PA....saving you from having to carry heavy speakers that mostly only deafen you onstage! I know my Line 6 LD150 isn't enough, and know my Trace 260w is WAY enough (about 2/10 on the output dial) but ye old trace is killing my back and drinking petrol. So kinda guessed I needed a modern 300w simply by the numbers. Oh, if only t'were that easy eh! I guess that's why i just wanted recommendations from educated folks so I could put all my faith in them! I've looked at an awsome ashdown tower for sale someone recommended, but fear it''ll end up as weighty as the Trace in total. Still, fun looking and learning! Thanks again to all! M
