If you like your Squier Jazz, and yr happy with the playability/sound, but are looking for a higher end instrument to do the same, maybe a 2nd hand US Fender Jazz?
-
Yr not wrong there. He only says it to annoy me, he knows I don`t listen to him
The Terror is great tho. It is very warm, great for stuff we do in The Daves and probably stuff like Motley Crue etc. Tho I sure if I were to play finger-style, rather than with a pick & back off the gain a bit more, I could coax some nice Motown runs from my Precision through it. Think it also depends on the cab used - I weren`t over keen on the cabs I demoed it with, until I found the off control for the tweeters. It really has an old-school sound. -
No particular order
Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers
My Sweet Lord - George Harrison
Pretty Vacant - Sex Pistols
Eton Rifles - The Jam
Killed By Death - Motorhead
December 1963 (Oh What a Night) - The Four Seasons
Knowing Me Knowing You - Abba
Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks
Blockbuster - The Sweet
Sweet Child o` Mine - Guns & Roses
There are many more faves, but think I`d be happy if these were the only songs I could listen to ever again. -
Yeah, Andys comments about the bass are usually that it goes "boom boom boom" so for him to rave about it must mean its good.
Less Backache and Andy can tell the difference in the bass this time - the way forward, lol. -
I had one of these, and wanted a bit more out of it too. Duff McKagan also uses one, and liking his tone, I replaced the J pickup with the Seymour Duncan he uses - think it was the STK-J2 the Hot Stack. Made a great deal of difference with both pickups on together. Obviously if you want to use the P pickup soloed, that too may need changing, but bear in mind that the Aerodyne is made of basswood (well mine was), which whilst good on low mids, doesn`t seem to have quite the same depth on the bottom end as alder/ash. This may be why it doesn`t seem to have the same effect on the lower notes.

In your situation, either sack him, or get someone to say what you all require of each other as a band, and that anyone not fulfilling that is essentially handing their resignation in.
I had exactly the same situation in an old band where everything our guitarist said was "I`m not" "I won`t" "I don`t think that" "In my opinion" etc. Never "should we" "what do we all think". There was never any consideration for any of the rest of the band, it was all about him.
We`d already started working on the premise that the next time he refused to play a gig, the rest of the band would do it as a 4-piece, and accept the obvious resignation. Luckily, it never came to that, as he left, but I`d never work with someone like that again. -
Cheers Nige, am very happy to be in this club.
I put it thru my Marshall VBC 4x12 (no tweeters) which is an amazing cab for old-school bass sounds. -
Well last weekend, following aching severely after my last gig, I took the plunge and bought a Bass Terror (yes I know no-one will believe me unless I put pictures up, but I felt I needed to write this now).
Used it last night at band practice, and am amazed. The sound and power of this little guy!
We`re a punk band, doing Pistols/Clash/SLF covers etc. Mostly one guitar, sometimes two. Well the Terror was running bass on 10, mids on 5, treble on 10, gain on 3, volume on 3.
Using my trusty MIA P-Bass, with 3 month old strings, set like this, it was a fantastically warm bass sound, and the depth of the sound was incredible. I had doubts before the practice that the amp would be too "gainy". Not at all. The whole band also gave it a vote of confidence, and that`s good enough for me.
I know this should probably end up in the review section, but to anyone considering the Terror, I`d say go for it. I agree with previous posts that the eq doesn`t have a massive impact on the sound, so it really is a bit of a one-trick-pony, but, if you like that trick, you`ll love the Terror.
And so will your back! -

Personally I prefer amp head & cab, tho there are plenty of powerful combos out there. Its just that for £500 you could get an amp head plus a 4x10 cab, and realistically, this is likely to be all you will need, wherever you play. The sound through a 4x10 will more than likely sound "bigger" than through an equivalent costing combo at the same volume. Of course, the downside to the head & cab is weight/portability
For playing live, I`d personally be looking at 300 watts minimum, either option. -
I had the exact same rig, so would thoroughly recommend this. Great performance, a lot of amp here for this money!
-
I`ll throw a spanner in the works here. What about one 4x12 4ohm cab?
I used to have an amp that kicked out 450 watts at 2 ohms, and used it with a 4x10 & 2x10, both 4ohms. Amp volume usually on 4/5. Changed to my 4x12 at 4ohms, so the amp now kicking out 280 watts at 4 ohms, amp volume on 2/3.
Surface area of a 4x12 is virtually the same as 6x10 (its about 97% - there was a thread on here how to work it out somewhere).
I`m sure the db rating of my new cab is higher, but the performance is great, and I`ve still only one (heavy) cab to wheel about, rather than two. -
Cabs for me.
I can get the sound I want with most amps, but my 4x12 with no tweeters is the essential ingredient. Having used my amp with other peoples cabs at gigs etc, with the same eq-ing, it just hasn`t been as I want it. I`ve not been in the position to use my cab with other peoples amps, but I`ve used it with three of my own different amps, and each time I`m satisfied with the sound. -
Same as:
For me, since a young age I was attracted to the electric bass sound on the radio and on records, by mid teens I knew I wanted to play bass
Plus, hearing Bruce Foxton in The Jam, and JJ Burnell in The Stranglers bringing the bass up front in the music inspired me even more. -
Hi Rob
Never had any problems with my MB450H when I had it, and used this facility quite a bit, so this must be a unit problem rather than generic to the amp model. In this situation, I`d give Marshall a call, they`ve always been spot on with cusomer service in my experience. 01908 375411. -

Never used Monster Cables but for ages I used Planet Waves, was always satisfied with them, however my gigging lead started to look a bit sorry for itself. So, I bought one of OBBMs (the Klotz version) . Indoors, through my practice amp, the difference was amazing, the bottom end was much more present - and this is through a15 watt amp with 8 inch speaker. I don`t know if I would notice it it in a band situation as I haven`t tried, but certainly at home, playing bass on its own I could definately tell the difference. Like someone had upped the bass control by 1 or 2, but kept all the other settings the same.
