how's it going with the Sub 5?
You may have seen elsewhere my rant about kids nicking my tools that came up when I put on a new set of Elixirs a couple of night ago, but otherwise good. Quiet r/h with it last night and wifey should be taking it over to Graham at Drum & Strum today for a quick set up with new strings, detuned etc to get me started
Al
Sorry all this is off topic really -
Sorry to hear of your problems Nik.
I nearly came over myself on Saturday, but #1 son was home for the first time in 7 weeks so family duties & a curry took over.
BTW Plan C may come to fruition over the weekend
Of course none of that is of any use in your speaker problem. If you do not get it sorted my sound guy certainly used to have a good reasonably priced contact for recones & I could check with him for you
May see you on 15th
Al -
It is odd actually as it looks like the B string saddle adjusters could be different sizes as I have found a key that fits the inside post but is too small for the outer.
Anyway quiet rehearsal tonight and a second set I ordered from Stringbusters in case arrived today with a non taper B, so I took the taper off & filed that as a "last resort" replacement and put on the normal B.
Worked much better, but I think as my band plays detuned a semitone and the bass will spend most of its time strung that way I shall just get it into my local guitar man for a general set up tomorrow (if I can persuade 'er indoors to make the delivery & collection for me).
Not 1/16 or 5/64 or 1.5 mm - those being the smallest I could find in B&Q this evening on the way home. -
It was going great guns 'til I put the damn tapered B on last night - though not seen action in anger yet.
So the Roadie Rench is going back & I shall try a set of small allen keys from Focus DIY or somesuch -
So after my rant about the kids nicking tools last night I went & bought a Roadie Rench this lunchtime but none of the hex keys on it seem to fit the bridge saddles on the MM Sub 5 I acquired from Silvefoxnik via Beedster recently.
I need to raise the B string saddle as the Elixirs I put on last night is taper wound at the ball end on the B, which the old strings weren't.
Help!!! -
Hells bells have you seen the other stuff he's knocking out!!
Oh no and he's only just up the road from me too. -
Welcome.
You'll have had a good laff at my expense at Rox last year. I was the poor bastard trying to find a way through the murder by cello of Little Wing & Sweet Child of mine on acoustic.
Good set that night -

The chap I have used in the past on the south coast quoted me a starting price of £150 to refinish the MM Sub with a tobacco burst to match my Wal - depending on the current finish
I recently had a purchase with Silverfonix and the chap is a gent and a scholar. Highly reccomended ;0)

Click on his feedback rating.
He is now "Not a registerd user" so hopefully eBay got on the case - well we could all hope so at least -
2)Switch between the 1st and 2nd agro. Ideally automatically disengaging one when I engage the other.
Would this work? Set one to on & one to off & have a single footswitch with a pair of jacks so that when you switch the one that is off turns on & vice versa. That would be 2 switches & two leads you could tape together.
or how about something like this and some cable strappong/sleeving like this for the leads to keep it tidy? -
I thought I might hang around to put some last minute bids on these basses he has for sale - just to see you understand.
Funnily enough that crossed my mind too. Someone obviously tried looking at the latest feedback
I think we should take it upon ourselves to contact the eventual "winners" and warn them of our suspicions - don't you think?????
- trouble is they were private bidder auctions so I do not think there is any way to find out who "won" in the end
No surprise that the tw cars he "sold" & got positive feedback for at the top of his feedback list are also on Gumtree

So is it Lorena, Stephane, Gerry, George, Gustavo, Charlie......................
I'm just waiting for my TE 122H to show up It'll be interesting to see what that makes -
His feedback now contains
everthing for sale is a con he is getting them off www.gumtree.com don't bid
to which he has replied
we did previously advertise on gumtree without success of sales, what wrong????
Methinks a further whiff of horse, and yet still they bid. Ah well -
He has all these items advertised on gumtree. they are in a shop in Fulham i think. the Gibson bass is going for £950. so i can't see it going for anything less. He also wants £1400 for the Fender 75/76 , maybe he's just testing the waters on ebay. i think it's def the same person.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, cynic alert - or has he just half inched the pics from Gumtree?

I can't be bothered to go on, I think that's enough -
I wonder if some people bother looking at their feedback and think, 's*d that'! Obviously some people don't care about the mark up or they just don't look.
Not too difficult is it and there are at least 2 other 12 band versions going elsewhere on t'Bay at the mo for less just not from a "trader".
Nothing illegal, just business I spose.
Quite, its only business after all, but it will be interesting to see what they get all the same -
I wonder who this belonged to before?
Back again on Fleabay almost immediately at a nice little Buy It Now mark up - well I suppose he is a trader.
Watching with interest. -
I quite like Wal basses BTW
Me too funnily enough, just not with NEARLY as much gusto as you!!
My exceedingly short list for 30+ years runs

Unknown cheap & exceptionally crap P bass copy - famous only for having a No10 packet holding the pup up & which died of a broken back when lent to a friend who left it leaning in the corner of a greenhouse for most of one summer

Shergold Marathon fretted (black) - that became a silverburst 8 string later in its life

Shergold Marathon Fretless (black) - both the Shergolds went a few years back when I got sick of lugging 3 basses round & only using them for one number an evening.

Aria SB1000 - nice enough but it went in p/x for the

'82 Wal Pro1 that became a Custom effectively in '96, and which I still have & love to death

MM Sub 5 with the John East preamp acquired last week from Silverfoxnik via Beedster
I rather think I have had more amps than basses, but then I lucked on the penultimate bass in the list -
Able to read? not necessarily - unless I suppose you have one main writer in the band who expects everything to be as he heard it & scores it for you - but would you want to be in such a dictatorship?
Play complex lines/playing ability? Yes definitely helps
Play complex time sigs? ditto
Good theory? not necessarily but might help. A good ear is just as much use, but if you know the theory you might get there a bit quicker. It depends how instinctive you are
Extended range? I have only just acquired my first 5 string but the lack of a 5 or 6 stringer was never a problem when I was in such a band - mind that goes back a few years now. When I saw Spocks Beard in London recently Dave Meros was using a modified Rick (with a Hipshot D-Tuner) & was turning to a keyboard to double really deep lines. Pete Trewavas only uses 4 strings & bass pedals in the Transatlantic DVDs so I should have thought it is not an absolute must have. There are other ways of covering really low end & if the band has keys you could end up fighting for the same sonic space.
Mind you, I had been thinking of giving a call to an ad for a proggy band in my area recently, but the ad said "must have 5 string". I have other things on the go so not desperate for another project anyway, but to be so prescriptive in an ad does seem a bit limiting. -
Welcome to the deep end
-
A quick call on this in case anyone is interested as I have a possible offer in the pipeline.
How old is the amp? I'm auditioning for a functions band next week, and if I get the gig, this would probably be ideal.
I bought it new in about 1999/2000 I think but I would need to search out the receipt. All I can see in the lead case is the Andertons RRP/Our price ticket. -
I've been lucky having upgraded amps slowly but surely over the years, but having used the same bass for the last 20+ years - mind I lucked out with my baby and it was uprated to actives 11 years ago (seems like yesterday, doesn't time fly) so it's not quite the same bass for all those years!
What size hex key for an MM Sub bridge saddle
What you want is a 0.05" hex key, the one in my set is an exact fit.

Cheers. I shall have to go up to the old style / got everything hardware store tomorrow lunchtime.
