The P profile n bits n bobs look very similar to a Glarry, even the colours....?
Entirely possible they're from the same factory, they're all basically just rebadged versions of what you can see on AliExpress.

Bought some headphones from Nick -- exactly as described and superbly packed.

Can't be long until the letter from Neural DSP's lawyers arrives...

MTD Kingstons will be about £800 depending on model and spec. Excellent instruments
Yep, love my KZ6

Some others I've come across:
- Some Corts (Elrick NJS5, GB Modern 5)
- LTD F-series (the spiky looking one)
- Schecter
- Solar
minor tangent, but whatever product manager named the Sterling Ray 35 needs their donkey kicked

Yeah, 55-02, make sure you try one.
55-01 or 55-OS are more to my taste, the 55-02 pickup arrangement just looks wonky to me?

In my case, that would include low weight, wide string spacing, and simple controls. YMMV
A fair point, although I'm pretty unfussy in general. "Looks cool" and "won't lose too much value when reselling" are probably the other key factors...

Yeah a used Skyline is pretty near the top of my list... quite taken with the 55-OS

Great advice if you have the cash, dangerous advice if you don't.
If Mrs BCer finds out what you are planning, you're in serious trouble.
Strictly window shopping for now... 😇

You will also need to think about Yamaha, I prefer the TRBs but the BB range has serious following and if you go down the BB route you will have plenty of change in your budget.
Also don't discount G&L or Spector, you'll be pleasantly surprised what's available in your price range.
TBH there aren't many (if any) badly built basses today so you could find something from left field that you hadn't considered.
G&L are all 34", I think? I do have a Spector 6 (which is very nice, and what kicked off my 35" scale quest) although I'm not 100% sold on the body shape. Yamaha is a good shout, the BBs leave me cold aesthetically but a TRB would be a good option (although not the TRBx range which are all 34", oddly).

Sire do some nice ones with the M5 and M7.
Nice, I didn't realise those ones were 35".

It looks light it weighs as much as the moon. The picture of John playing the fretless neck gives the impression that it is extremely bulky and unwieldy.
Yeah, I have a Bill Dickens sig which is huge and weighs a tonne, I can't imagine handling two stuck together.

Idly window shopping to fill the hole in my collection:
- fretted 5 string
- ideally with a 35" or longer low B
- under ~£800 new or used
What's out there? I know some Spector models are 35", MTD Kingston, Ibanez BTB (or any of the long-scale fanned fret Ibanezes), Jackson JS, Lakland Skyline (maybe pushing the budget slightly)... any obvious ones I've missed in there?

By finding a good chiropractor, ideally

I'm still a bit sad I had to move my 5 string double bass on, but the reality is I don't have the time and space needed for it so it's better with someone who can use it.
-
It's generally referred to as "not fretting cleanly" I think 😬 — beginner lessons always emphasise fretting behind the fret to avoid it. (As ever, if it works for you, go nuts)

Unless you are absolutely desperate for the additional income, I wouldn't even consider it.
Absolutely this, unless you can be 100% confident they'll treat it as well as you would (spoiler: they won't).

The A/D/G gauges here seem like you're tuning a BEAD set down?

I just see folks online saying that when they do try this alternative position, they find themselves in an uncomfortable twisting position, which makes me think that my experience is somewhat unique due to my size/make-up and the size of my short-scale bass.
IME this is probably because they've adjusted to the regular position without realising how much twist that introduces -- straightening it out back feels like twisting the opposite way, rather than being ~neutral.
-
I started using classical position relatively recently, to help combat my poor posture that was leading to back/knee pain -- it lets me keep my back straighter (when I'm mindful of it). For me it's actually closer to how my basses hang on a strap, as you say it's definitely easier to play in the higher registers.

Nice, is the image printed directly on to the plate?
-
I have an SSL2, I'm pretty sure the control panel is very bare-bones, no EQ other than the "vintage warmth" emulation on the preamps.
-
Super clean playing and nice tone to my ear ( I do like a darker sound so this may well be a matter of taste) -- sounds like "tube warmth" to me through my monitors and through my MBP's speakers.

Seems like it should be feasible. Recent example:
Slightly older example, although it's a bit of a cliffhanger
