BigRedX
I'm looking at getting some new stands to use when playing live. I prefer stands that support the bass from the bottom rather than ones that hang from the headstock as I've had a couple of nasty experiences with those. However because most of my basses are unconventional shapes, I need something that is adjustable/swivels at the bottom to allow for different asymmetrical shapes. I've been looking the Hercules GS405B but I I can't find any information on where or not the supports at the bottom of the stand swivel to accommodate different body shapes. Does anyone here have one and can they confirm that this is the case. If not can you recommend something else that will be suitable? Thanks
BigRedX
Just had an email back from Hercules and apparently the supports at the bottom of this stand don't swivel (so how are they managing to show a J-style bass on it?) Can anyone suggest a good stand that will support basses with asymmetrical bodies?
yorick
This is fully adjustable for asymmetrical bodies.... BigRedX
Thanks! I hadn't looked at Quiklok recently, because I've already got an older version of this stand and it's a bit of a pain the set up as for most of the configurations I use, I have to change the position of the arms when I fold it away. This newer version looks like a better design though, so I'll check it out unless there's something more suitable. I'm disappointed that the Hercules didn't work out because all the ones I've seen have been nice and light - the Quikloks are somewhat weighty! If not, you might be surprised by how secure one of these is. It does the job admirably for me, with a very asymmetrical body: Just sit the bass in where it naturally balances.
BigRedX
I've already got one of those. I wouldn't dare use it at a gig. It's fine when you a got a minute or so to make sure that the bass is properly seated, but I need something where I can drop the bass on and know that its completely safe. Plus the basses I'm using most at the moment are the Gus G3s which have a sculpted back and therefore lean too far back on this stand which shifts the centre of gravity behind the back support. I can see the sculpted back would be a problem. Mine are all fairly slabby, so I've never had that trouble.
