Ahh, an Ibanez MC 924 bass, just like the one I had in 1983, though from what I remember the active circuit was a bit harsh and the front pup was a bit of a thumper. Having said that, it was one of the first truly affordable basses (along with Aria) to hit the scene. I was a big Mark King fan at the time and I used to string it with Superwounds (the ones where you had to cut the string and loop it back through the ball-end). You can't actually see it in the pix but the finish was a pearl white that spakled slightly depending on which angle you looked at it. I also have a feeling they did a short run of these in zebrawood.

Sting played earlier, natural ones, as did Adam Clayton. Pino played one in a Paul Young clip but that one was just a prop...I keep seeing these white ones - this one's for sale in Germany at http://www.station-music.de/: for 590 euro, another natural fretless one locally at http://link.marktplaats.nl/272883674. And on ebay for 100 dollars: http://cgi.ebay.com/1985-Ibanez-Musician-B...0QQcmdZViewItem - a real nice price (provided you get it shipped...) as the trussrod covers alone are sold for 80 dollars. Aha another one - ugly black, overpriced and advertised as a '83 model - the pickups make me think its a later version but I'd have to look it up to be sure: http://cgi.ebay.nl/1983-IBANEZ-MUSICIAN-BA...id=p3286.c0.m14

Music-outlet is always very expensive - they used to have a lot of stuff on UK eBay but not so much these days.
The Gumtree one is only 15 minutes drive from me and, if I didn't have other fish to fry, I would have at least gone to try it.
I am trying to stick to Brit basses (fell by the wayside with a Levinson blade recently but only £200 so I couldn't resist) so that is keeping me from going for this one.

Your Encyclopedia is a Godsend, Jan, but does my GAS no good at all.
