To be honest I really couldn't tell you. I know a good bit about Fenders but I'm not an expert.

When I bought this I bought it from a guy who had owned it for 20 years. I asked if he ever had any work done to it (roundabout was of asking him if it was all original) and he told me that he had one of the pots reconditioned - not replaced, but reconditioned. He himself had bought the bass when it was ten years old. Your right about the pot looking different, but I really don't know what it should look like to say. Everything else about this Fender "looks right". Nothing stands out as being newer/changed/different. All the wear and tear and ageing looks consistent across the instrument.
