How to get these tones?

I'm rubbish at dialling in bass tones.

I have an active jazz bass with aguilar preamp and nordstrand jazz pickups and a boss bass cube.

I love the tone this guy gets:

Also in their heavier stuff:

Just some tips on what frequencies to cut / boost etc to get me started would be lovely :)

Hmm sounds like he is using some pretty beefy cabs, i dont think you could replicate that sound with just Eqing. I tried to emulate a certain bass player recently, and the most significant change in sound was when i actually got some decent large heavy cabs.

Anyway, i am a fan of opeth, i reckon the bassist uses a pretty flat EQ, with low mids boosted a little but the high end rolled off. Again i think alot of it is to do with some decent cabs.

I'm never going to get some massive cabs as far as I know, just starting out and want to play along with the guys and gals I really like.[/quote]

You dont need to emulate anyones tone to play along with other people? :)
