RonC Posted yesterday at 09:36 Posted yesterday at 09:36 Hi all, I’m building a headless bass at the moment (fretless 5 string) and can’t decide the best spot for the logo. I’m gonna place it as an inlay on the fretboard but I doubt between the position at the 12th fret or after the 24th. Because it’s a 5 string, one string will run through the middle. I’m gonna use black strings. What looks best? (Build diary will follow when it’s finished!) 1 Quote
Mediocre Polymath Posted yesterday at 10:23 Posted yesterday at 10:23 I think the convention that was settled on in the 80s is that the logo goes on the body, parallel to the centreline and either close to or directly above the fingerboard. As ony Honher I think Washburn, Steinberger, Status and Ibanez put theirs in the same place. Not saying you have to, but that seems to be the convention. Quote
RonC Posted yesterday at 10:26 Author Posted yesterday at 10:26 Thought about that too but I really like the contrast between ebony and maple. Quote

Personally, my inclination would be to do both. If you have the inlay jigs, you may as well do it at the 12th fret and on the body. Quote
RonC Posted 23 hours ago Author Posted 23 hours ago It’s sure is a possibility but wouldn’t that be an overkill? Quote
Pea Turgh Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago My vote would be for the body end of the fretboard- not seen one like it and it sits nicely. 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago There is also this possibility or on the treble side... 1 Quote
RonC Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Thanks you all for the suggestions, Most likely it will be the end of the fretboard. I'm not fond of placement on the body, everybody else allready does that. The advantage to place it above the 24th might be that the string movement is bigger while playing so the middel string won't cover the middle part of the logo all the time.. Before i'l make the final decision i'll put the strings on! Quote
