franzbassist Posted yesterday at 18:56 Posted yesterday at 18:56 (edited) The first one is easy, my Original Effects Cali 76 Bass Compressor, but after that should I put the HX One or the Origin Effects DCX (running as an overall EQ) next? At the moment it’s Cali>DCX>HX One, but I’m starting to think the DCX should come last? I’ll try the latter tomorrow regardless, but curious to see what the BC hive mind thinks. SumOne Posted yesterday at 19:05 Posted yesterday at 19:05 The classic thing is to go: compressor > effects > preamp. ....but lots of amps have an effects loop as it is good to put certain effects (generally delays, reverbs, modulation) after the preamp. And compressors set more like limiters are usually at the end of the signal chain (e.g. can then tame overly 'peaky' effects like tape delay). So there isn't any definitive right or wrong. 1 1 Quote
itu Posted yesterday at 20:37 Posted yesterday at 20:37 If you want to push the fx and use dynamics to control them, then comp should be last - and the other way around. 1 Quote
franzbassist Posted yesterday at 20:47 Author Posted yesterday at 20:47 The effects I will be using in the HX One are a chorus, an overdrive, an octaver and an envelope filter. Quote
itu Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Depending on your playing envelope will love dynamics. Therefore I have an envelope before the comp. Remember, there's also a connection to the settings of the comp as well as the fx. Comp can raise the envelope to new heights, but my guess is that the pure signal coming from dynamics from your fingers is the key. Yes, this means lots of trials. 1 Quote
SimonK Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Trying and seeing what sounds best is the only reliable way, but as this is an internet forum and relies on keyboard warriors spouting opinions I would go HX one first as it's probably designed to have the whole signal hit it without any pre-processing especially if you are using modulation effects, then the drive/preamp/EQ for further tone tweaking and finally the compressor just to level the signal. franzbassist Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Thanks for the comments guys. I’ve stripped everything off the board this morning and tried all possible combinations. I can confirm that compressor>HX One>DCX is the best for my playing 👍🏻 Edited 11 hours ago by franzbassist 1 Quote
SimonK Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago With those setting is the compressor doing anything apart from what looks like a lot of high pass filtering - I think it's about 400 Hz when all the way to the right? Quote

Nothing is set in stone yet. I’m still playing around, and this is a tweak of Origin’s “transient shaping” setting. Quote
