There's a really lovely roundedness and fullness to the bass sound on this track and I have no idea how to go about getting it. I assume there's compression involved but what else is there? I have a Roland VB99 so I should be able to recreate most things but I don't have mush experience with how different noise makers work.

So, over to the BC collective genius to hopefully help me out.

It's a great bassline as well, simple but really effective.

To my ears, That sounds like a P-bass (or neck pickup at least?)

Roundwound strings

A healthy dose of Compression

And I think I detect a pinch of Pitch modulation i.e Flanging or Chorus just to give it all a bit of ‘3D’ shimmer?

That should get you in the ballpark…

Thanks. I was wondering if there was a bit of chorus or similar in there. I'll have a fiddle around and see what I can do. It's such a lovely, plummy sound, kind of ballooning out and back again.

Spot on I’d say

I would also say it’s recorded in the studio using a pick although in the clip he’s playing fingerstyle

The attack on the notes sounds very pick like

Standard 80s-style P-bass tone, to my ears. Amp mostly clean, compression, bit of a midrange boost, hint of chorus.

The guy is obviously miming in the video (nothing is plugged in!) and I concur with BassAdder60 that the recording sounds like a pick is being used.
