soulstar89 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 I was gifted these copper nylon strings from a good friend @HowieD72. Iām really surprised by the tone. I put them on my 78 mij Yamaha pulser p bass. Maple fretboard and Asian ash body. When you dig in itās feels like it has a compression effect of the highs. Tames it in a good way. When playing chords they have great sustain and tone, very sweet sounding. Ā They are on Ā loose side (a tad tighter than it flats). This put me off at first. Ā I contacted La Bella and they suggested you should always start off with the regular tensions.Ā Ā Another thing I noticed is the output is lower than my nickels or flats. No problem though I just increase the volume on amp.Ā Ā I am so impressed with its feel under my fingers, so smooth and tone that Iām going to purchase the regular tension. sound so articulate and percussive playing fingerstyle.Ā 1 Quote
HowieD72 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 Love to hear updates once you try the regular tension..... Ā It "might" sway me from my GHS Precision flats, but that will be a big ask š 1 Quote

Next bass I get I want to be able to access the truss rod without taking off the neck.Ā Ā Never tried the ghs flats.Ā Ā Ā 1 Quote
HowieD72 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 I just tried the GHS Precision flats because I got some cheap. I normally use Dunlop and found the Fender 9050L flats are good too. I was pleasantly surprised with the GHS Flats. Very nice and they complement my active pickup on my Warwick bass. I think they'll be my go-to flatwounds for awhile. Quote
edstraker123 Posted November 23, 2025 Posted November 23, 2025 I've got some on a Sire GB5 electroacoustic which is more like a hybrid bass with just a Piezo pickup and they sound sublime. I've tried the golds too but definitely favour the copper. 1 Quote

It's like some people rate TI's and LaBella Flats and to me, those aren't in my top 5 flats.Ā Ā IMO/IME, I reckon it's how the strings mate to your pickup. I've tried the same string on several basses (p-bass and jazz) and they sound garbage. Then I put them on my Warwick and they sound perfect. Ā So on my Warwick I have GHS Flats, my parts p-bass with MEC actives I have Dunlop Flats and my daughters p-bass with DiMarzio Relentless Middle pickups has the Fender 9050L strings.Ā Ā But yeah, definitely horses for courses ššš½ Quote
