rwillett Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Hi I'm looking at the smallest setup for portable use, so using my NUX Mighty Plug Pro and a set of wired headphones. I have a pair of over ear headphones that are very good, Austrian Audio but are a bit bulky. As my iPhone no longer has a headphone socket AND my daughter appears to have lost my rather nice wired Bose headphones, I'm unsure what to get. Also does playing bass need specific ones? I've never used in ear monitors and am unsure if they are the same as wired ear plugs such as the Bose ones above. I can't see me needing IEM's for the foreseeable future, so any recommendations for in ears for practise purpises less than £100 would be very helpful. Rob Quote
Sté Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) I bought the t.bone EP 4 (from thomann) cause i was needed some in-ear to sub a gig with an all equipped band. And i can say that for the price i've paid, those ones are very good, comfortable to use. Bass sound is really present and nice. I now use it at home with my mighty plug mp-2 and it works perfectly. rwillett Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago @Sté Thanks for this. So are IEM's the same as 'ordinary' in ear headphones? Rob Quote
Sté Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago What do you mean by the same ? The same plug jack for sure, but position is different in ears. You can see example pic on thomann website. On sound side, it's pretty superior than all i've had as standard small headphones. All is clear, bass are really good. https://www.thomann.fr/the_tbone_ep_4.htm Quote
rwillett Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago @Sté I was trying to understand the differences between a pair of consumer in ear headphones such as the Bose ones and IEM's such as the Thomann ones. The jack plug is the same, but is there any other difference? Everything I have read seems to indicate there is little difference, e.g. https://www.rtings.com/headphones/learn/earbuds-vs-iems and https://producelikeapro.com/blog/iem-vs-earbuds/ Which seems to indicate that its the seal against the ear canal as opposed to any difference in the technology. So passive noise cancellation vs active noise cancellation such as Air Pods. However I'm trying to check if I can. If no difference, I'll just get a pair of cheapish IEMS and use them Thanjs Rob 1 Quote
Sté Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Ok. I must admit i've never ask myself these questions. Thanks for sharing links: very interesting Edited 1 hour ago by Sté Quote
Huge Hands Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I bought a pair of the KZ ZS10 in-ears a couple of years ago from Ali-Express that were mentioned in the in-Ears thread as a good starter to try when I thought I had a in-ears gig coming up. That fell through, but I use them a lot for noodling in the house, connected to my Sonicake Pocket Master (with a mini-jack to 1/4" adaptor). I did buy a second set as I didn't think they would last, but they have, so the 2nd pair are still in the box. I don't normally like the rubber bung type earbuds but they do seem to work well for that. I have not tried them on a sweaty gig though. Quote
paul_5 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) I *have* tried the zs-10s on a gig and can report that they are great. I replaced the rubber tips with foam ones and they performed admirably. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Edited 1 hour ago by paul_5 Quote
