Recovering an old cab

Im looking for a new cab and seeing lots of decent ones cheap but with really battered and torn tolex. It it a big or expensive job to replace the tolex on a 4x10?

It's actually surprisingly easy! The pain is removing the old covering and leftover adhesive gunk! 

 

Cheap heat gun and a scraper and you're in business.

Thanks. Is it difficult if the cab has an closed back?

Stripping a cab is the easy part. There's a skill set to be learned in covering with Tolex or similar, especially if there is piping involved. The 'easier' way is to paint with Tuff or DuraTex paint, but any decent finish will eat up any cost benefit from having bought the cab cheaply in the first place. Maybe worthwhile for one's own cab, but doubtful as a financially-viable operation. Unless it's a case of needing a new hobby, of course.
