Bonin-in-the boneyard Posted Saturday at 16:09 Posted Saturday at 16:09 Hi, I'm after some information on The Strunal 5/35 hybrid I'm a lefty and this is a proper left handed model At a very reasonable second hand price I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them I've been looking for a good starter bass one that will be a good gigging bass as well Thanks Quote
NickD Posted Sunday at 07:03 Posted Sunday at 07:03 Obviously I can't speak for that particular bass, it's history, setup and all that... But I play a 5/35, and it's a good solid bass, sounds good, and seems to be quite insensitive to the weather, temperature, humidity, etc. Over the past few years I've had the bridge reprofiled and a fingerboard shoot, which has improved playability, but I've no complaints at all really. 1 Quote
PaulKing Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Strunal make great basses. It's the same factory (in Luby) that used to make the old ply basses imported by Boosey & Hawkes in the 1960s (eg the famous 'Aria Excelsior'). I had a factory-new 5/40 some years ago, it had sweet tone and was built like a tank (in a good way). The sound mellows with age and use, so if this one has a few years in it that's not a bad thing. Pictures? I think the 35 denotes some concessins in accessories, so expect slightly cheaper tuners etc, but none of that makes a jot of difference if you're talking a 'starter' bass at good price. 1 Quote
