Delberthot Posted Saturday at 12:22 Posted Saturday at 12:22 (edited) I decided to change the pickups on my Cort Space 4 from the Bartolinis to EMG Jazz bass and had this great idea of making pickup surrounds to hide the gaps around the new pickups. Something simple scratchplate material. Unfortunately, this morning, I ran out of talent and made a complete dog's ear of trying to make them. I've seen them on Ebay in the USA but they seem a bit steep at the best part of £50 for a couple of bits of plastic. Does anyone know a source in the UK for these or even if one of the many talented members on here are able to make these for me? I just need simple black surrounds that I will probably just tape on to cover the 108mm x 34mm gap. I had also thought about buying soapbar sized covers for these and fitting them over the top but I dislike how large they are. I can't rest my thumb on the edge like I can with Fender or Musicman sized pickups due to the fact that the edge of the pickup is so far from the strings Edited Saturday at 12:29 by Delberthot Quote
snorkie635 Posted Saturday at 13:00 Posted Saturday at 13:00 Some of our esteemed brethren or sistern (?) might be able to print you something on one of these new-fangled 3D printer-whatsitnames? Good luck. 1 Quote

Delberthot Posted Saturday at 15:33 Author Posted Saturday at 15:33 Great minds think alike 🙂 I've found two sources so far: These from the US https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404109207020 And from the UK https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1868463728/pickup-surround-to-fit-us-or-mim-jazz?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=bass+pickup+rings&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&sts=1&loc=1&local_signal_search=1&content_source=180517c7a15b6280b604ffb74fb2af767a0bc58d%3A1868463728&organic_search_click=1&logging_key=180517c7a15b6280b604ffb74fb2af767a0bc58d%3A1868463728 Quote

I actually didn't think about this. I have the packaging that my EMGs came in which has dense foam with cut-outs for the pickups but I doubt that I am steady handed enough to cut it to fit in the gap. Quote
PaulThePlug Posted Saturday at 19:06 Posted Saturday at 19:06 Thats the beauty of the foam... soft foam cut with scissors, hard foam, netal ruler and carving knife, plus it squishes to fit! Quote
Delberthot Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago Well the foam didn't work. Unlike what I assume is the foam from Fender pickups above, EMG just has plain rectangles Quote
Delberthot Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago So it was back to plan A which was fit the EMGs into soapbar cases. The neck pickup was a tight fit length wise but the bridge one wouldn't go in at all due to the tubes (?) for the screws to go through. Luckily I was able to snap one off right at the top of the underside and still had enough room to get a screw past it to go into the body. I am very happy with the result - looks more or less original (with the exception of the extra pot hole) despite having EMGs and a BTS system EQ fitted. 1 Quote
