Jimothey Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Hi allĀ Ā Iām having an issue with my 51 style p bass wiring the volume of the pickup was really low so I changed the pots which sorted out that problem but the tone pot also does the volume Iāve checked the wiring and itās all correct, I changed the cap just in case and that made no difference either Ā I think I recall hearing somewhere that it could be an issue with the coil wires on the pickup? Does that sound like it could be the cause? or have I got my wires crossed (sorry bad pun!!!) Ā Any advice would be great thanks šš» Quote
Hellzero Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 A photo (or more) with close up of the wiring might help. Ā Maybe one lug of the tone pot is earthed (or touching the shielding), this would mean it's acting like volume. Quote

That was my initial thought but itās not touching anywhereĀ Ā Iāll put some pictures on when I get home later šš» Quote
Norris Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 There are a couple of ways to wire a tone pot, one ("modern") being much more common than the other ("50's style" vintage), which would be even more unusual on a bass but not totally out of the question. The "vintage" wiring means that the tone could have a bigger influence on the volume too Ā Photos would help Quote
Jimothey Posted October 7, 2023 Author Posted October 7, 2023 Sorry for not posting pics sooner but hereās the wiring and the diagram I used Ā Bizarrely Iām getting output but when I test the pickup with a multimeter Iām not getting any resistance? š¤ Quote
