Hi allĀ

Ā

I’m having an issue with my 51 style p bass wiring the volume of the pickup was really low so I changed the pots which sorted out that problem but the tone pot also does the volume I’ve checked the wiring and it’s all correct, I changed the cap just in case and that made no difference either

Ā

I think I recall hearing somewhere that it could be an issue with the coil wires on the pickup? Does that sound like it could be the cause? or have I got my wires crossed (sorry bad pun!!!)

Ā

Any advice would be great thanks šŸ‘šŸ»

A photo (or more) with close up of the wiring might help.

Ā

Maybe one lug of the tone pot is earthed (or touching the shielding), this would mean it's acting like volume.

That was my initial thought but it’s not touching anywhereĀ

I’ll put some pictures on when I get home later šŸ‘šŸ»

There are a couple of ways to wire a tone pot, one ("modern") being much more common than the other ("50's style" vintage), which would be even more unusual on a bass but not totally out of the question. The "vintage" wiring means that the tone could have a bigger influence on the volume too

Photos would help

Sorry for not posting pics sooner but here’s the wiring and the diagram I used

Bizarrely I’m getting output but when I test the pickup with a multimeter I’m not getting any resistance? šŸ¤”
