Are you fully aware of the band when playing live?

Like all bass players should be, I am at all times most aware of the drummer.

Likewise, he always complains most if he cannot hear the bass.

Most of us know that bass/drums is in some ways the most intimate musical relationship in a pop/rock band.

It is always a good feeling when the foundation we lay allows the guitars to do their stuff over it.

After I joined this band, I knew my work was done when the (lead) guitarist (to whom the band belongs) said in conversation to other people that this was now the best line up he'd had, but couldn't put his finger on why.

Am I aware of the rest of the band when I'm playing?

You've clearly not met our drummer and guitarist. The guitarist has a Marshall fridge freezer that sounds like it's on fire inside and the drummer sounds like he's putting up shelves. They're pretty hard to ignore! ;)
