Ignorant Question for u tech guys

A delay will just repeat the note or whatever your delaying at a certain rate over a certain period of time. You can also set the delay to decay at a different rate, so the tone/volume/sound/something will fade out (or something like that)

A looper will allow you to capture a certain section of a song (eg 4 bars or something) and it will then repeat endlessly in a loop, so whilst that's playing, you can layer other stuff ontop of it.

I'm not a tech guy by any means, but as far as I know the looper records things digitally & can overlay an infinite number of tracks on top of the loop. Mine can actually transfer the recordings to a pc as well. Have a look at some of the Victor Wooten solos on YouTube. He uses his JamMan live on gigs.

A digital delay just replays what you just played and invariably turns it into a veritable mess if you turn the effect up too high.

Rich.

As OTPJ said, the Digitech JamMan is great (especially for the price) and can do infinite layers and blah.
Guitarist has one, and if youre intending to use it live, it could maybe do with a bit of practice first, but it is really well made and as such is pretty reliable.

Delay wise, there's the usual Boss ones, ranging from simpler ones like the DD-3 to the beast that the DD-20 is. There's also the EHX Memory Man, though I've not played with that. There'll be all of the other brands that I don't really know aswell. I'm sure someone can give a better list.

By the way, these two types of pedal are definitely not the cheapest around, so if you're on a budget it might be worth keeping an eye on the for sale section and eBay.
I don't know anything on which delay to get, but as I said, I've got the Digitech JamMan. Expensive, but absolutely awesome. I use it live for a looped solo & it's amazing. Hold's the audience's attention!
mm thats what im thinking.

Akai Headrush does looping (28 seconds or so) and delay. It can't delete just the previous loop which I think the more expensive units can but for under £100 you can't grumble. KT Tunstall did that Jools Holland live performance of 'Black Horse...' with one.
