AndrewR Posted July 14, 2017 Share Posted July 14, 2017 Just bought an Epiphone Jack Casady signature bass from an on-line retailer. Had to wait 4 months to get one in ebony (how cool it looks). The build quality for an instrument made in the Far East is really good, but the QC for a £500+ instrument is really poor! The neck was wound so far back that the strings choked on the frets. When I tuned it up to see what the correct string tension would do, the bottom bridge posts pulled out of the body! After winding the neck forward, super gluing the bridge posts in, adjusting the bridge rake and string height and adjusting the saddles to set the intonation, it now plays like a dream. Really happy now. 😊Why can't people take more care in their quality control? 🤔 Anybody else had problems with the Epiphone basses and with the Gibson style Supertone bridge? I've had an Epiphone Rivoli re-issue from new (1995); it has the same bridge as the Casady, and I've had no problems. Quite a lot of people seem to replace the Supertone bridge with a Hipshot unit. Any views on this? Is it worth it? My main bass for many years has been a Fender American Standard Precision, so I'm more used to the Fender set-up. Comments/advice welcome. I've fitted a Hipshot to one of them - very much easier to intonate and improves the tone too. I pulled out my string posts when I fitted the Hipshot so I could epoxy them back in, so if you do end up upgrading the bridge, you've saved yourself a job ! AndrewR Posted July 14, 2017 Author Share Posted July 14, 2017 Thanks for the feedback. I'm impressed with the build quality for the price and knocked out by the tone that the instrument produces. It was worth the initial tinkering to get the instrument set up properly. The feel of the neck is very similar to my P Bass, but overall a bit bulkier in the body, due to its size. The neck is very different to my Rivoli, which is short scale with a slimmer neck width and profile. I do like that too however. I will leave the bridge on the Casady as is for the time being, as it seems fine, and I'd like to get used to the sound as it isthanks again for the feedback - much appreciated Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
