I sometimes wonder if I'm a freak amongst bass players, I love new, bright strings and boost my mids religiously.

Everyone on basschat seems to be opposite.

This. I drop the treble a tiny bit as I'm not keen on the string noise. With a Micro Thumpinator you can boost the bass without introducing mud. I like low mids but find it can be overdone.

All I know is when I'm in the bedroom I need to turn the mids down to around 9 o'clock (bass and treble at 12) to get the clean nutty sound I prefer. But the minute I'm with the full band I need to to be flat to get a clean sound in the mix.
