[size=3]I’ve had this bass from new since 1998 (although the serial number on the headstock N9395547 is meant to be for 1999 - however they used some N9 prefixes in 1990 and it’s possible that at some point I swapped the neck) when I played it on the Brian May Band tour, and it was my main bass for quite a few years in the Queen musical We Will Rock You. I played it on 2 shows standing in with Queen + Paul Rodgers in 2008, and with Queen and the We Will Rock You cast at Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace in 2002. Sorry, no, it didn’t belong to John Deacon![/size]

[size=3]There are quite a few dings and scratches from being used a lot, which don’t show up very much on the photos. However, it’s a great-sounding P-bass, if you want a Precision with many tone possibilities. [/size]
[size=3]There is a small LED mounted next to the jack socket to indicate charging - the rechargeable internal battery is powered by plugging the mains adapter into the jack socket.[/size]

[size=3]The P-Retro is simple but flexible active/passive bass preamp equaliser which offers huge tonal variation to one of the most popular styles of bass of all time, but without the need to permanently modify the instrument itself. The original Volume becomes a Volume/Tone Stack. Pull the Volume to switch on the Active Tone Stack which allows variable frequency Mid and Bass/Treble boost modes. Power is provided by an internal rechargeable battery, charged via the jack.[/size]

P-Retro features two stacked knobs each with a pull switch, class A FET input stage and a high quality relay for pure passive bypass. Power is provided by an internal rechargeable battery.[/size]

[size=3]The normal volume control becomes the Volume/Tone Stack and works in exactly the same way as the P style bass original controls, passing the passive signal directly to the jack. When the volume control is pulled up, the active circuit is switched in, post passive tone control, and adds 2.5dB of gain with a flat response. Additionally, the upper knob allows either a mid boost, or a combined bass/treble boost. The lower knob sets the variable frequency points for either mode.[/size]
