Blown Transformer

So my trusty Ashdown MAG 300H quit on me last Sunday. Left it with a tech who came recommended and apparently it needs a new transformer. Still waiting for a quote so my question is this: at what price point in repairs do you call it a day and just replace it?

Depends on the new and second hand value of that item I suppose. If you're paying a good percentage of its value for a repair, you may be able to sell it for parts or as is and put that money on top of the would be repair cost for another one. That probably wouldn't apply to high end stuff though or things where there's a healthy second hand market.

I've replaced quite a few of these. It's a very easy job to do, literally just one bolt and about seven wires to connect. I think a replacement was about sixty quid and about half an hour's labour tops.

Anything under £100 I suppose I can live with. Unfortunately I've been checking the used market and there just isn't anything that excites me at the moment. The Ashdown just gives me the sound I love, the one in my head when I'm thinking of bass.

Think you've answered your own question. If you love the sound it makes and can't find anything else you prefer, it's worth fixing, even if it costs quite a bit. Resale value isn't the only measure of worth. Utility value is more important, imho.

Yep I think, unless repair costs are stupidly expensive, on this occasion I will bite the bullet.
