1970 Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 During sound check last night I put the DI cable into the 'pre amp out' by accident (never did that before). It cuts out all sound to the cabinet. Does this mean I can use the 'pre amp out' for DI recording without having a cabinet attached? Always assumed it was a big no no, but's it's solid state, and if there's no power to the cabinet then is there no risk of damage to the head? dincz Posted December 12, 2015 Share Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) When you plug into pre amp out, the signal to the power amp is interrupted so it, and the cab, are effectively "sleeping". There's no danger in doing this. Running without a cab connected is OK for solid state amps, but bad for valve amps.
