Well it FEELS like a new bass.
My very first 'proper bass' of 30 years has just had a makeover.
I have a Vox Standard bass. It was bruised, battered, worn out , pots with no knobs on etc.
I've levelled and crowned the frets, given it a full set up, some nice rubberised aluminium knobs....and yesterday installed a Bartolini preamp...a 2 knob one.
It plays and sounds like a new bass..I'm really chuffed. My baby is now ready for the next 10-20 years....and naturally reliced to boot.
I'm a very happy bunny!

Lol..funny enough I thought the same thing..it does look like a Dalek.
The P pick up close to the bridge is unusual..it gives the bass a J type sound that I really like..plus the Vox has a 2 octave neck that I prefer to the j type set up.
Very good but very underrated these basses. I always fancied the neck thru model...it would be a great bass to pimp.
