FS: LR Baggs M1 acoustic guitar soundhole pickup **SOLD**
£100

Rather gutted to have bought this new a few weeks ago (£147 + postage here http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1439.l2649) only to find that I own, apparently, one of the few acoustic guitars on which it doesn't fit (Gibson MK-35, which has an exceptionally deep rosette). It's been taken out of the box, played around with for about 30 minutes without success on the Gibbo, tested on my Epiphone SJ200 to check it works (the Epi has a built-in PUP), and put back in the box. It's brand new in every respect other than the packaging has been opened.

LR Baggs M1 passive soundhole pickup

The LR Baggs M1 acoustic soundhole pickup uses new technology developed by Gary Garrett and Lloyd Baggs to allow the pickup to respond to the guitar's string and body vibrations.

The M1 is a humbucking pickup - with a twist. In a common stacked humbucker, the second, lower coil cancels hum, but doesn't contribute anything positive to the sound. In fact, it can muddy the sound of the main coil. In the M1, the hum-cancelling coil is suspended under the main coil by a tuned support that allows it to move in three dimensions. The primary coil moves with the guitar top and creates a body signal in the suspended secondary coil. Motion is carefully controlled to add the presence and realism from the body signal while suppressing runaway feedback. This brings the M1 to life, with string and body sound all in one. It's like having a dual pickup system in your soundhole. And it's all passive - no pre-amp is needed. The M1 allows you to play at high levels without feedback, and the combination of string vibration and guitar body sound produces a quality of acoustic sound unrivalled by other soundhole pickups (well, except for the LR Baggs M1 Active!). Ideal for both live and studio situations.

The M1 is easy to mount across the soundhole using two fixing screws - the tapered ends of the pickup mean that it can be fitted to guitars with soundholes of different diameters. Connection to the endpin jack socket is is via a detachable lead. (Endpin assembly and lead are both supplied.) If preferred, a longer lead is also supplied for direct connection to an amp. Adjustible polepieces allow the balance of individual strings to be adjusted - although the factory setting is usually spot-on.

You're not on your own Beedster! I did exactly the same thing. Bought one of these new for about £150 and found that although it could just be fitted it was too tight to remove without damaging the soundhole. I bought it for a Chris Perkins parlour.

Great price for one of these and they truly sound amazing......I'm sure you won't have it for long and good luck! :)

Hey Surfguy, yes, they don't mention in the blurb that if you have a slightly raised rosette that not only are the screws insufficiently long but, more seriously, PUP doesn't fit under the strings! I was a little annoyed to be honest that there was no adjustment for PUP height, which strikes me as a design flaw. Anyway, it's sold now so no worries!
Cheers
Chris
