Might Mite neck - headstock lacquer finish?

I have a black/black Fender Precision with a Mighty Mite maple/maple Jazz neck on it. Having left the headstock decal-less for a while now I have decided to stick a Fender decal on it - 70s style Precision Bass one as that is how the bass has ended up looking. The neck is the plain finish, rather than tinted, which I think has a light coating of clear satin finish on it? Certainly looks like it, rather than being completely un-finished wood. What would experienced hands suggest as the best clear laquer to use? I think I would prefer satin finish, but how do you keep a satin finish when polishing? tried it before on a headstock and it ended up gloss!

ta!

As for keeping it satin... Don't polish it so much?

Yes, why didn't I think of that.

Where do you suggest getting the nitro spray? I think there is somewhere that sounds more like a maker of handbags but I forget the name now.
