Does Anyone Have Experience In "The Industry"?

Hi folks! I haven't been around for a while, but everything's all good, and I hope everyone here is happy & healthy?

I've put this in "General" for maximum exposure, but mods please feel free to move it if appropriate. I may take it to PM's eventually.

OK, here's the thing. I'm in a position where I could be the driving force behind a project involving a few internationally known - but semi-retired - artists. Think "Chickenfoot". I'm talking big names. My involvement won't be musical (much), but rather making the whole thing happen; logistics, finance, production, promotion, etc. The problem is that I have absolutely no experience whatsoever. Has anyone out there in BCLand done anything like this? Where should I start? How do I start?

I may have bitten off more than I can chew, but as someone once said, "I want to go to my grave regretting things I did, not things I didn't do."

Many thanks!

:)

Yup, no brown m&m's !!

I have been tour manager I suppose image way I still am. You have the right attitude it would seem so go for it. If you have big names playing it should make it a bit easier but it can be a massive head ache it just depends on how you deal with stress.

Go for it dude, I would say pm's might be a better option too drop me a line if I can help I will

I`ve no experience in the industry, other than playing/recording etc. However from the description of what you`re looking at, I`d say that the following skills are essential: Organisation, communication, thoroughness, patience, logistics, ability to work long hours without stress-load becoming too frazzled.

Bear in mind as well that should something like this reach Chickenfoot potential, it would involve possible/probable stays away from home/possible overseas work. So if you have any health issues that need certain routines, look at these as to how this project could affect them.

From there, start looking at your contacts - people in the right position will be invaluable. Sound-men, promoters, make-up artists, people who own transport companies - anyone you know, if they are in these fields, broaching into them will be a lot easier.

I haven't been involved for a very long time but I'd say that networks and delegation skills are likely to be crucial (along with all the other soft and hard skills noted above). I would be looking to employ a very good and trusted (and probably quite expensive) administrator/PA - preferably one with creative industries/PR experience. There will be a lot of essential admin work that can distract you from other interpersonal, technical and performance-related tasks.
