I saw a pic of one of these in this months Bass Guitar Mag, first thought was that I hate the shape, the second was that for that price I'd want more to my bridge than a Les Paul stop tail!!!! But then I noticed the pickups, and thought that if they're anything like the originals, that thing will sound monstrous with everything on.

There's no way in hell I'd buy one, I could buy a 4003 for that sort of money.... but it would be cool to tinker with if it was a few hundred. Ditch the 5 way and put in three mini-toggles for individual on/off, put a push-pull on the tone for a choke circuit on the neck pickup, stick a proper ridge on it....

...and the shape does grow on you....

Yeah, those basses cropped up here in Jan: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=fretking

I do like the look of the Green Label Europa IV Bass though, wouldn't mind having a play, but couldn't justify owning that sort of instrument.

The Green Label Europa Bass is most definitely on my GAS list. I'd need to play one first though to make sure that the bridge isn't simply an exercise is retro styling at the expense of playability and intonation tuning.

thedarxide, you might want to have a look for one of the original FretKing Europas (there's some pics and details in the Weird and Wonderful thread. The stereo version has a 'proper' bridge and 3 p-style pickups with each half on it's own 5-way switch. I know there's at least one in existence, because I've played it!

If the craftsmanship is like that of the original UK-built FretKings then the Europa will be well worth the price, and since each is most likely individually built it's possible you could have an alternative bridge fitted such as the the Hipshot EB replacement which would be in keeping with the vibe of the bass.
